If the government owes ME money do I still have to file an extension?

Then again I'm pretty much SOL since it's past midnight EST anyway, right?

but they just take like a few percent of it away, right?

sad thing is i started taxes in MARCH this year... then i needed a bunch of shit from my 401k and investments i cashed out and a bunch of other stupid stuff.

i just need to find a trustworthy jew to do all my taxes and stuff for me

(someone imbed plz)

I don't know if they take a percentage out or not, but yes, you do need to file an extension. The last couple of years I didn't get my taxes done until August-September and I don't recall the IRS taking anything out of my taxes. Now UNC hospitals on the other hand took all of my NC refund since apparently I still had some unpaid bills from taking my son to the ER a couple of times.

Penalties for late filing, or not filing at all are based on what you owe them. Since you don't owe them anything you won't be penalized.

There is no percentage taken out. You probably should of filed an extension but you shouldnt have any trouble when you do decide to file.
