maybe, just maybe you should just activate it like it says......unless it's really not yours
4/14/2007 2:21:38 AM
nah its mine, i put in a serial
4/14/2007 2:32:24 AM
you can get a serial from almost anywhere if you download it illegally. it doesn't mean that it's yoursso...
4/14/2007 6:48:43 AM
you have to activate XP. No way around it unless you try the registry tricks out there but then you can't get the patches.
4/14/2007 9:05:53 AM
just activate it dude[Edited on April 14, 2007 at 9:27 AM. Reason : sigh]
4/14/2007 9:26:38 AM
it takes all of 3 seconds...if you have the serial number.and since you have to active RIGHT after you install... you should still have it.

so i found out tonight that if u change a motherboard and use the same harddrive u dont need to reinstall windows xp
4/15/2007 2:38:55 AM
wrong. if it worked for you, it's because the motherboard had the same chipset.
4/15/2007 4:59:00 PM
hmmm that might be true...i installed it on a 1.15ghz athlon and put in a 1.25 athlon motherboard after that
4/15/2007 5:02:41 PM
just changed the date(it was like set on 2000)it immediately came up and said the 30 days was up i dont get if it lets me install why it needs to activate anyway...[Edited on May 19, 2007 at 11:05 AM. Reason : 1.3ghz btw]
5/19/2007 11:05:04 AM
because activation proves that you installed it with a legitimate serial number.
5/19/2007 12:08:00 PM
its def. legit...after i put it in, it proceeded to installtried tinyxp...didnt worktrying xp pro right now...i raided my parents software cabinet
5/19/2007 12:46:39 PM
aka legit being that you didn't borrow your roommates serial number and install it on your computer too. They look at your hardware config and if it changes a lot the next time you install you have to call in. They've recently gotten a lot more lax on it. This was all on slashdot a while ago.
5/19/2007 12:54:03 PM
Just tell them your old PC got struck by lightning and you built a whole new one. They will give you the activation code.
5/19/2007 1:49:56 PM
just fucking activate it dude, this is not complicated. Follow the instructions.
