I cant believe people are still getting killed over there, especially someone I know personally from way back.

He will be missed

Quote :
"CLAREMONT -- Army Pfc. Brian Lee Holden planned to trade the hot sands of Iraq for the cool ocean breezes of Myrtle Beach. He had a late-April vacation with his wife Amanda planned during a two-week leave.

See the video

Those plans were forever changed on Monday. Holden, a member of the 17th Field Artillery Regiment out of Fort Carson, Colo., died when a roadside bomb detonated underneath the Humvee he was driving while on patrol.
Holden, a 2005 Newton-Conover High School graduate, was 20.
Holden enlisted in the Army right out of high school. On March 10, 2006, he and Amanda married.
Holden later found himself at Camp Loyalty, a forward operating base. A gunner, Holden was combat-ready. Still, his mother said he found it hard to get used to the crack of a rifle or the sound of mortar shells. He was ready for the two-week leave.
“He was looking forward to going to the beach for a few days and then coming home,” said his mother, Leasa DeLozier.
He figured to leave the Army next year, buy a house and start a family.
“We saved every dime for our future,” Amanda, 20, said.
“Now, I don’t know what I’m going to do with my life.”
The military was never far from Holden’s mind, even since he was 8.
“He knew I was in the service and always talked about joining the service,” Eugene DeLozier, Holden’s stepfather, said
Holden stood only 5-feet 8-inches tall, but he looked much different after basic training.
“He went from a little fella and puffed up pretty good,” Leasa said.
One thing never changed - his sense of humor.
“He was always the one smiling,“ Leasa said as she held photos of her son. “You see in all these pictures, he’s smiling in every one of them.”
Holden and others in his unit often prayed with a chaplain before each mission. Often away from the barracks for five days at a time, Holden was growing weary of the fighting, DeLozier said.
DeLozier understands. He wonders why his son had to lose his life over what he says is a flawed foreign policy by the Bush Administration.
Still, despite his feelings on the war, he is proud of Holden’s dedication to the United States.
“He grew up to be a man in the military, serving this country,” DeLozier said. “I’m as proud of him as everybody who has fallen for this country.
“He was a hero.”"

but, the war is just a big farce. Its about oil and political power. Sad to see people die over an unjust cause.

I saw Hickory Daily Record come up and got worried. I didn't know him but my prayers go out to those who did.

it's only the fucking 11th and 47 US troops have already been killed this month in iraq.

nothing compared to some of our past wars, but totally unnecessary.

i have 6 friends from high school over there and i check http://icasualties.org/oif/ every day to make sure there names aren't on there.

It's just so weird, I graduated with him. I mean we talked a lot in high school. Kinda lost touch with him afterwards and then I hear this. RIP Brian

You know what's even worse? I know so many people that have been killed over there it's made me almost numb to the fact. Every month I flip to the obit section of the Naval Academy alumni magazine to see if anyone else I know died.

Sorry for your loss dude... A buddy of mine was killed in the war last year by small arms fire while on convoy duty.

I had a friend from HS die in Iraq back in July of '04. They actually used his pic on the cover of USA Today whenever we hit the 1,000 mark for soldiers killed in Iraq.

why would you want to use the death of someone's friend as a platform for spewing forth your own political bullshit? you're just trivializing the person's death by doing that.

it seems like people trivialize politics to just bickering. believe it or not, we as voters and citizens can do something. deaths of soldiers in a war that i find unnecessary upset me. isn't that just natural?

no one wants to hear this rhetorical bullshit about how pointless you think war is. just because you don't understand it doesn't mean it's not necessary.

Keep telling yourself that. Last time I heard, more Americans were against the war than for it. And last time I checked we still have troops there. Doesn't say much for the American political system does it?

R.I.P to your friend. I can't imagine what that must be like...

a friend of mine from hs is over there and was in a really intense battle recently. I think he said something like 20 people from his unit were killed. He was lucky (and blessed) enough to come out unharmed. Sorry to hear that someone else died over there.

Lost my cousin July 27th, 2006. 3 of them fell that day from their group. I feel for you - I still think about him every day and it never gets any easier.

Let's turn this into a, "George Bush lied to us" thread. That's obviously the appropriate thing to do.
