Car is the 2000 GT V6 with 94k milesslips on the 2 to 3 shift, liek it goes from 2k to 2.5k then 2.5k to 3k then 3k to 3.5k and then once it finally htis 3.5k in second it finally gets into third.Started doign it suddenly, wasnt something tha tlike crept up on the car.If i shift the car manually (has 1, 2, 3, D gear settings) and move it from 1, to 2, to 3, to 4, shifts go find, wont slip if i manually go from 2nd to 3rd.Yea I know the first problem is a Pontiac. The second problem is i didtn get the transmission flushed, i dont think ever.So before i take it to a tranny shop (which i would like reccomendations on which one to go to)So far i have put in 2 bottles of that lucas crap, and about 5 quarts of tranny fluid (the fact that i could fit 5 additial quarts in ther worrys me)Any ideas,Im guessing base is to get the transmission fliter changed, and a flush (which im hesistant to do).Unless i can find a tranny for like 1k I dont see this getting fixed

if the lucas didn't help, nothing else is. you can try a fluid/filter change (no flush) and see what happens, but don't expect much. have the bands adjusted also, that might be your best bet out of everything. get the fluid level right too, overfilling can screw with one just as bad as it being low.i just dumped another quart of lucas in my truck yesterday, it's back to shifting somewhat decent again. i've been limping it along for the past ~20k. autos don't like 700-800lbs/ft of torque. ^ Do you normally drain some tranny fluid before putting in the Lucas? I bought a bottle last week and it didn't say anything about doing that, but it also seems like common sense not to over fill it.

whatever i've used it in has always been low anyway and/or about to bite the dust so i've never bothered. i guess if it's perfectly full and you're doing everything you can to save the thing, you might want to drain a little. epsecially on a smaller capacity car trans where an extra quart can make a big difference.

there isnt a way to Check the fluid on the damned thing, i think total it runs 13 to 14 quarts, talked to a guy i know and he said the instructions were to put in fluid until you could see it, and yea the car was runnin.

hahahaahahahahaahahahahakeep adding fluid till it overflows out the dipstick. might as well, the transmissions fucked now.okok seriously, take it to a transmission shop.
4/11/2007 9:50:45 PM
did you seriously dump multiple quarts in?
4/11/2007 9:55:48 PM
hell, throw some coolant in there too. see what happens.
4/11/2007 9:56:12 PM
ive put a couple thousand miles on an automatic transmission with no 3rd gear, you dont need that shit
4/11/2007 9:59:38 PM
you do realize you are supposed to warm it up, then park it, cycle it through thegear, then put it back in park at idle, take out the level plug on the side, then fill it through the fill plug on the top, don't you?if it was even working at all, and you added that much fluid, you're gonna blow out the pump seal soon, real soon[Edited on April 11, 2007 at 10:39 PM. Reason : it holds 9 quarts total after a dry overhaul, 7 after pan removal]
