I tried a cigarette lighter plug on a new CB radio a few years ago in a volvo and it worked fine with just the car battery on, but it had much poorer reception once I turned on the engine. Has anyone else had this problem with CBs? I want to install the same radio in my 4runner if you have any installation advice.

i've always run a dedicated power wire to cb's i've had, either from the fuse box or battery.

they use very little power, so more than likely the reception issues you had with the car on were related to some other interference like the alternator or something.

its a shitty radio, get over it, and mount your antenna as far away from the engine as possible
