Or he could pull a Marvin Williams / Brandan Wright and project as a lottery pick despite being a reserve.

It all depends on how athletic he is and how his game projects to the next level.

after everything ive read on J.J Hickson, recruiters said that he has the most NBA ready body out of any freshman coming in. In other words, unless Sid the kid gets him to stay as he did Ben Wallace in Detroit, he could very easily be gone for the money after 1 year.

^maybe but look at somebody like psycho t...without mentioning anything about his NBA ability (bull in chinashop dont work against men)...Roy is probably going to have him for a third year next year and he's a dominant college player...so you never know

Also Hickson should definitely get playing time so its not like he'll go pro early just for lack of minutes

If he's good enough for the NBA, then let him go. Having him for 1 year is better than having him for 0 year.

Yeah but look back at guys like Chris Wilcox of Maryland, Josh Powell, and even Ced Simmons. Those were guys with striking similarities to J.J.."NBA ready". "Phsyco T" is definitley not NBA ready and will never dominate in the NBA. J.J has that ability, and when NBA money is on the table, you never know what young adults will do

^but seriously, who cares about NBA? What we should be caring is NCSU basketball. I would rather have somebody who puts up 20 points, 10 rebounds in college than someone who averages 10 points and then get drafted in the lottery due to "potential".

^^true you never know

hey if we get 2 years, thats cool

^plenty of people...or do you hate Ced Simmons and Josh Powell now and not even care about them

Most reports are saying the JJ Hickson has been dominating the post in the McD AA practices/scrimmages so far. He was been, without a doubt, one of the most impressive players in attendance. They are also saying his game away from the basket (10-12 feet out) is much better than they thought. We have very little chance of Hickson being around for a second year... very little.

^^^from his post, he made it seems like it's more important to have players that are going to succeed in the NBA. My point was that I would rather have players who are productive in college.

Ha, dunno if that was a joke but the 3 pt and dunk contests were last night, they're just showing them tonight before the game.

****spoiler alert****

chris wright won.

I'm stoked about JJ. There's a vid of one of his games on youtube. It's cheesy and shot by high school kids, but he's got a nice looking jumper and i believe even hits a 3. Excited to watch tonight even though these games are alway just guards firing 3's from half court every trip down. Anyone remember Costner's ho-hum performance two years ago? Man, he turned out to be a dud, haha.

Even if he is only here for 1 year, we are still pretty good up front. If he leaves, 2008-09 will feature McCauley as a SR, Costner (if he's still here) and Horner ar JRs, and Smith as a SO. That should give us plenty of opportunity to reload without losing much.

true that...but at the same time, if we want to compete with teams like UNC year in and year out, we've got to get the NBA caliber talent
