i recently uninstalled and reinstalled google desktop to get it to the latest versionindexing is done but every once in a while a 2nd process of GoogleDesktop.Exe starts up and eats up 50% (since it's a amd x2 it can only eat up 50%) of a processor. i go to the task manager and end the task and then the search box shows up (the one that shows up when you press control twice). it's really weird - is anyone else having issues with this latest version?and as a side problem, i tried to set up an exclusion for my desktop so the files on there wouldn't get indexed because whenever i compress a video using AutoGK or i'm downloading a torrent, i don't want it to get indexed WHILE the stuff is happening because it locks up the file and the compression or download can't continue. even though i've added the desktop directory as an excluded directory in the options, it still fails sometimes and i have to pause indexing when i'm doing something like that. and there's no real way to just pause it until you say so again - you can only pause for 15 minutes. what do you guys do to get around that (besides not using GDS)?[Edited on March 27, 2007 at 2:20 PM. when you have archives of text files and docs and shit that were handed down to you from previous work done before you started on the team, there's no way in hell you can read it all - it's better to index it for when you need it

^ that is the truth...When I started my current job I was given countless documents from previous workers and none of it was really organized well nor did it make sense... I was sure most of it was not even useful so with google keeping it indexed I have been able to search for things as needed until I was fully organized with all of my own materials... eventually I just archived/trashed the rest.Plus I just like the double key quick search box... I could not give a damn less about toolbars or other crap...

what about the microsoft desktop search?

^i've used this...its not badI'm the type of person who always makes sure to UNcheck the boxes when all the google add on crap wants to get installed as part of an install package of another program...no sense in using up more system resources
