So, the democrats in washington are pushing bills through the house and senate that have deadlines for troops to be home by such and such a date. I thought the President was CinC. Why isn't anyone raising a stink about this blatant disregard for the Constitution?

dear god.[Edited on March 27, 2007 at 1:43 PM. Reason : [lock]]
3/27/2007 1:42:56 PM
because no one in congress has the balls to do it the way the constitution allows them to: cut funding.
3/27/2007 2:13:29 PM
and until they grow said balls, they need to shut the fuck up.
3/27/2007 2:13:59 PM
I'm firmly against the war, but cutting funding w/o a direct withdrawl (which the prez won't do) would be a huge disservice to our troops.
3/27/2007 2:15:02 PM
then they need to shut the fuck up and quit trying to be commander in chief. They are not and never were supposed to dictate actions by the US military overseas. They can cut funding.
3/27/2007 2:17:50 PM
yeah, then they'd be made out to look like the bad guys.....that's smart politics.
3/27/2007 2:20:38 PM
oh so you at least admit it's politics.what happened to principle?
3/27/2007 2:29:37 PM
^^ As opposed to making ineffectual, and constitution violating laws? This is the problem with politicians, they're too concerned with how they look and not with what they're doing. And if they look like the bad guys for doing what they are allowed under the constitution then it's because the public doesn't want them to take action.[Edited on March 27, 2007 at 2:31 PM. 3/27/2007 2:30:40 PM
i don't recall bringing up principle.^until our election system is reformed, image within your party is everything...so yes.[Edited on March 27, 2007 at 2:32 PM. Reason : .]
3/27/2007 2:30:50 PM
when was principle ever a part of politics or government?
3/27/2007 2:31:51 PM
The only problem with this method of operation, is that the president (and I mean any president) has the ability to wage as much war as he wants, provided he personally doesn't break any US laws in the process, and We the People are left with no recourse but to vote him out whenever the next election comes up. (Up to 4 years)Another fine example of the "representative" form of government that we're supposedly running spinning its wheels... And the best part is that it's not because the system isn't well laid out, it's because the guys with the power to make the change are too focused on the next election.
3/27/2007 2:33:07 PM
ah, because we don't see principle being acted upon, it is an excuse to continue...nice.I'm glad I have your philosophy down. You encourage me.^PS CONGRESS VOTES ON THE BUDGET. IT'S CALLED CHECKS AND BALANCES (LOL BUDGET... CHECKS... BALANCES...)[Edited on March 27, 2007 at 2:34 PM. Reason : i got jokes.]
3/27/2007 2:33:13 PM
How would not voting for war funding make the Democrats the bad guys? Doesn't everyone want the troops out of Iraq? Aren't Bush and war approval ratings at all time lows? How could forcing Bush's hand be bad for the Democrats?Seriously, this is nothing but political posturing. Besides, they needed a bill to attach 22 billion in pork to.[Edited on March 27, 2007 at 2:38 PM. Reason : \/ Yeah, that's what I'm trying to say]
3/27/2007 2:34:08 PM
if this war is that unpopular and if the American people don't want to finish it, then NOT pulling the money plug is a politically bad thing to do.
3/27/2007 2:35:08 PM
^^^I know congress votes on the budget. That's exactly my point, the people get screwed by the Executive branch, because the opposing party in the Legislative branch is too busy posturing for an '08 election to do what they actually think their own constituencies want.[Edited on March 27, 2007 at 2:36 PM. Reason : .]
3/27/2007 2:36:05 PM
This is the inherent conflict of interest that is politics. But, it is the least evil of its kind and ultimately, we do have the final say.
3/27/2007 2:37:27 PM
3/27/2007 2:41:30 PM
^ There are a plethora of examples in recent past where the President (and not just W) has essentially waged war without congress declaring war.And furthermore, once said consent is given, he or she is able to continue that war as long as he deems necessary, with the exception of congress pulling the funds. (which as has been discussed, they're unwilling to do for political reasons)

I hope the Dems stick to their guns. If Bush vetoes this spending bill, then he's the one keeping the money from our troops. Thats the problem with having an unaccountable executive. The whole world already hates him, so he really doesn't care what the people want. He should have been impeached a long time ago.[Edited on March 27, 2007 at 2:49 PM. Reason : .]

OH MY GOD READ A FUCKING HISTORY BOOKDID U KNO THAT WE HAVE 2 HOUSES OF CONGRESS 2 MAKE SURE THAT A TYRANNY OF THE MINORITY/MAJORITY DOESN'T OCCUR?and your claim that we would be overwhelmingly democratic is utterly retarded. Why not look at the last presidential election for a gauge on that.
3/27/2007 3:01:02 PM
