I would post in old school if i could but...

So I have gotten 2 job offers and I can't decide between which one.

Job A- would love the job and could lead to advancement of my ultimate dream job, does not pay as much as Job B and has crappier hours and must work saturdays. Work with a bunch of young people for established, large company.

Job B- would be fun but maybe boring with no guarenteed advancement. Standard work hours, growing, smaller company. Only 9 people in the whole company

What do i do!! Need advice and if anyone has ever been in a similar situation

what industry are both in?

at what rate is the 9ppl company growing?

how do the benefits compare? i have to imagine the larger company makes up for the salary loss in benefits but maybe not...

when youre sitting out by the huge pool outside your back door in 5-10 years thinking about where youre gonna spend your 2 months vacation that year, those saturdays in your 20s that you spent at work wont mean shit. or so what if you had to miss a few alive after 5s cause you were working.

being "old" (28) now, i think a lot about the years i wasted doing nothing in the work force cause i wanted to "have my weekends, etc". and i see how far ive come in just the past 6 months while putting my all into it (working late, saturdays, etc).

take the job that makes you work for it, it will be worth it. and ignore the assholes that are gonna post here to say OMG DONT ASK THIS TO TWW.

plus you say job A is your dream job? it took me years to find mine, jump on it!

Job A is in retail, and could advance to my ultimate goal of becoming a buyer.

Job B is in leasing condos and townhomes. Company B is growing because they are constantly buying new land and properties.

Can you survive on company A's salary?

well when you put it that way, job A doesnt sound so great. i thought it was a place where you would get what you wanted if you put in the time. that is a tough one... cause real estate is easy money, especially the IT side. but like you said, a lot of times youre gonna start making more money, but youre never gonna get much higher. (from what ive seen working for 2 developers)

Both jobs sound like shit. I thought they were going to be big jobs on big projects, not menial labor.

I'd take 'A' all day long... I've had a very sucessful career in that thing you call "just retail."
I started small, and worked hard... and working weekends has never bothered me.
When you want one off to do something, you take one - And while all your friends are dreading their Monday- you can have it off. Walking into a job I enjoy everyday is well worth it.

right now at my job i'm being paid shit. I could have a similar job where i'd be making at least 3 times as much. but i think this job could be awesome a year down the line.

it sucks, but as a fresh out of schooler sometimes you have to pay for future opportunities in shitty jobs and worse pay.

gl with your job search.

have you tried countering company A's offer with company B's?

Try it, if still the same, i would choose which ever one made you happy. Having a job you look forward to every day is much better than the paycheck at the end of teh week.

Long-term planning is difficult to do with any accuracy. Anything can happen that will rapidly change your life and career around. That being said, go with the one you think will be the best choice / most beneficial long-term.

A

Plan for the future. Work hard now and go somewhere with your career. With every new job you should be planning for the next one... like in college when you take the 200 levels before the 400 levels. Common sense, but it bears repeating.

And Claire, retail sucks!

Go with A

I took the 9-5 job with good money and paid vacations, but it was doing something i hated and i was fucking miserable.

I said fuck it all and started pursuing my dream job. The money sucked when i started, but its already paying off and the future is looking brighter and brighter. Ive never been happier.

we'd need a lot more info to be able to determine if A actually has any real potential, not that B sounds that great either.
