We should do something for his family.

the other thread just got deleted, we don't really need another one.

Death is important, it keeps the rest of us from taking life for granted. TreeTwista10 is expressing a uniquely human reaction, mocking those who attempt to make their personal moral code of decency the standard of his community. There is nothing "animal" about expressing your feeling just because it differs from what others want you to feel. If a thread had been made about a UNC student who dresses up like a ram while he was alive, most people here would have hated on the guy just like TreeTwista10. Now that he's dead, it's like he was never a UNC fan. The young man probably would have preferred the opposite. Respect when he was alive, disrespect when he no longer exists. There's no need to lock (and DELETE) a thread to protect an obviously false image. Most of the posters here had never heard of this guy before he was hit by a car. Even at his young age, he probably (again, I don't know him) lived all his life in the USA, and got to attend college. If that is the case, he likely had a better life than most people of the world who live 40 years longer. I personally don't care at all that this guy died, just like I don't care that any particular one of the several children overseas who have starved to death since then died. But I do care about having a place where threads don't get locked (and DELETED) because of conflicting point of views. I was attempting to post this in the original thread, only to find the thread locked AND deleted. I would understand if the thread was moved to chit chat, it was never really about sports. But now a lot of people aren't going to know what this is about.
3/26/2007 12:58:10 PM
is this official?that sucks.
3/26/2007 1:00:16 PM

3/26/2007 1:02:18 PM
no real reason. well there were some posters linking pictures of dead rams, but the last 10-12 posts had been civilized so..

^^I wasn't talking about you, you were just expressing you opinion and I respect that. I forget who it was that suggested the thread should be locked, I think his username started with a K. But it was really intended to be a plea with moderators not to lock these threads[Edited on March 26, 2007 at 1:16 PM. Reason : e]
3/26/2007 1:16:19 PM
let this thread be about the deceased not about another thread, please.
3/26/2007 1:17:22 PM
I hate Carolina as any good Pack fan should, but this really sucksdude didn't deserve to die at such a young age. I'm gonna call my mom and tell her I love her and I'm damn sure going to look both ways before I walk across the highway right beside an exit ramp
3/26/2007 1:17:32 PM
3/26/2007 1:21:25 PM
i like how i tried to make it abundantly clear that i wished him a recovery and only made fun of him for either going to UNC or being gay...while other people in the thread literally seemed to express joy in his situation...yet the lack of reading comprehension means i'm the bad guymaybe state is a bunch of idiots...cause they sure cant read for shit
3/26/2007 1:23:27 PM
No one can read it now because the thread is gone Sorry if I misrepresented you TreeTwista
3/26/2007 1:27:57 PM
i feel bad for his best friends. We all went to the same high school, but my group of 5-6 buddies were a little more deviant. But like us, Jason and his buds were inseperable with almost all of them going to chapel hill. Hell they even formed a band back in junior year and somehow stayed together with Jason being the lead vocals. Its just a sad day, our area in Concord is a pretty tight community so its gonna be sad there for a while
3/26/2007 1:28:06 PM
The over-riding theme in all of this (this incident, just like the Lawson dunk in the ACC tourney) is knowing where the line is drawn. We all hate UNC. Great. There is nothing wrong with that. It's gone too far when you cross the line and mock someone who has just passed away or relate a basketball game to lynching, killing, or other racist comments. The problem here isnt moderation, it's a little fucking self control. This goes far beyond blue or red. Have a little decency and respect when situations like these arise.

i'm sure i'll be seeing his parents over easter. it was sad getting the news. the guys all said their goodbyes to him late last night before driving back to the triangle and his parents had his organs tested to see if they could be donated. once the results came back they decided to remove life support. he made it through early morning before finally passing on at 8:38. Rest in Peace Jason. JMRHS '03

Instead of flowers, the parents of Jason Ray are asking people to contribute to the Jason Kendall Ray Memorial Fund. Please send donations to Concord Christian Church, 3101 Davidson Highway, Concord, NC 28027. For any questions please pm

He brought alot of joy to alot of people through his work with UNC. Damn shame it ended like this.Prayer to his family.
3/26/2007 4:03:47 PM
I still have a few questions about this.... maybe they've been covered by one of the 39,000 articles. 1) Was there any hint of speeding when this occured? Was it dark?2) What the hell was he doing on a highway shoulder? I mean are we talking major highway...? Is this common in New Jersey?I read that the car was trying to take an exit ramp. Exit ramp = no pedestrians in my book...that sounds like an interstate, not a simple right turn. Anywho.... this is absolutely horrible. NC State fan, UNC fan, mascot or no mascot, it just sucks. This kid had his whole life ahead of him and I hate it for everyone involved. Makes you realize how lucky we all are
3/26/2007 5:16:22 PM
BTW Turnip, it was me who suggested I lock the thread. I still stand by that...it was getting vile. There were suggestions of cock sucking, pictures of dead rams, and people spewing crap while news reports had this guy dying. There was no purpose to the post...and this site is freaking private so don't go invoking the 1st on me and everything. Mods have the right to ban, lock, kill posts that have nothing to do with anything - god knows mocking someone in the relevant local sports community who has now died to that level. I didn't tell mods what to do...they don't care what I say, I just thought it should have been nuked. This isn't about expressing opinions, this is just about maintaining even a shred of decency. Granted, I can't get that in chit chat but that's why I stay in sports talk and entertainment channels. Chit chat is a den of internet annonymous bullshit, anonymous bait and flame, shock factor, sex drives gone wild, nerdism, and gossipy crap. It sucks basically. Seeing it creep over to sports talk sucks in turn. Sure Sports Talk does humorous shit and post funny pictures making light of situations but again, not in situations that are serious, and not to this level where it's actually objectively abhorrent. Objective meaning coming from a socialized human. I just assumed that it should be locked to keep channels relevant (not to fucking mention decent).[Edited on March 26, 2007 at 5:21 PM.
