I'm going to have to disagree, for chemical engineering pwns mechanical engineering in every way.

yeah it was soooo great. I majored in ME, I have a great job because of it. BUT I would have to go with something else other than engineering...because you have no life in your last year

Dude if you think senior year in mechanical is difficult, you haven't even tasted aerospace senior design.

You have no reason to bitch unless you are in aerospace, nuclear, or chem engr.

^ I think you meant to include EE in that group, since NE is not as hard as EE

Hard is relative. I'm a EE and I can't imagine doing some of the stuff for MAE/CHE, but I know some people in those majors that can't imagine doing EE stuff. It's just what you're good at and interested in that makes it easier.

Uh Oh

This has turned into one of THOSE threads

All we need now is CHASS bashing

Oh and I would have chimed in with "CHE is easy"

But that was before I had taken unit ops lab

Or even gotten to MY senior year

Shit's crazy, yo

ive been told by students and companies alike the ncsu's ME undergrad program isnt really that great, but that the ME masters program is one of top ones in the country.

can anyone confirm?

reverse that and youd be correct

ncsu is 35th in the country for grad

NCSU is #6 in the country for undergrad NE
and #4 in the country for grad NE

only out of a possible 33 schools with NE, but still...

I think it's agreed that civil and industrial engineering are easy.
I'd have to say NE, Aerospace, and Biomed Engineering are some of the toughest
I heard EE is pretty tough too.

You can make any major hard with extra classes/minors/majors but I'm just basing this by following the degree audit exactly.

but basically its because ChemE's make stuff whereas ME's make the things/machines that make stuff

thus MEs are ChemE's bitches--we tell them what we need and they do it

Civil shouldn't be lumped with Industrial. I'll concede that it's no NE, ChE, or EE, but it's tough... at least structural and Environmental (Sure traffic may be easy).

You take a heckalot of the same courses as an ME.... and to say it's 'easy' is absolutely ridiculous. Industrial maybe be the 'easiest' becuase the word 'engineering' doesn't really belong on the end, but Civil is no cakewalk. Quite the opposite, actually.

Civil was a joke. I'm glad I majored in it though because I was able to only spend 15-20 hours a week on anything school related (other than my semester with senior design) and had a good GPA. I also enjoy the work I do so I guess thats a plus.

NCSU is #6 for grad NE out of a possible 15. The 2006 rankings have us behind Michigan, MIT, Wisconsin, Texas A&M, and Purdue.

its more like building a house

i have the idea for the house, i make up the plans...and then I hire some contractors to build it for me

how do you expect to run your machines without the fuel we refine for you?

not to mention that there are other sources of energy besides refined petro, or the fact that you couldn't "refine fuel for us" without our machinery

fine, but we're going to profit way more from developing the fuel than you are from making the machine--and at some point the need for machines will decrease whereas the need for the fuel/product/whatever's being made will stay more consistent over time

all in all, it just all goes back to the whole leader vs follower thing

[Edited on March 28, 2007 at 7:41 PM. Reason : plus we'd design/build our own machine 1st to make sure it works before we told you how to build it]
