i just wanna hear some of the strategies you use for drafting, ie what positions in what round, and what strengths you go for first.or do you just base it on what the other members of the league are doing

dont worry about a secondbasemen unless you can get utley. dont worry too much about pitchers until the 4-5th... or if you want to be sure to take a top starter, snag him in round 2 or 3.

The key is to load up on hitters early and grab a lot of viable starting pitching in the mid and late rounds. A few will pan out and a few won't.Be very aggressive on waivers early.... theres always random pitchers who have career seasons like Bronson Arroyo last year. You can get a guy off waivers that will outpeform top picks like Beckett and Peavytop notch closers go WAY too early/ Try to load up on the cheaper ones instead. 2 good closers will outsave 1 standout.Pitching is a total crap shoot... there are so many injuries and "off" years that its too risky to draft them earlya lot of your strategy depends on your exact league settings, but the above strategy is what pretty much all experts agree on[Edited on March 24, 2007 at 2:58 PM. It depends on what kind of league you are in. If it's your typical 12 team, 5 by 5 league, i always draft bats first through fourth, grab a couple of closers between 6th thru 8th and then fill out my pitchers during the later rounds.
3/24/2007 2:56:34 PM
take josh hamilton with your last pick.
3/24/2007 2:57:52 PM
its a random 12 team, head to head on yahoo. i did competitive because its no fun when half the league forgets they have a team
3/24/2007 2:58:37 PM
if you're playing head to head its a little differentid try to get one stud SP and round out your staff with good relievers. You will prob lose wins most weeks but you'll do great in saves, era, and whip that way.ANd since you arent wasting picks on pitching you should have a really strong lineup

I always use the rule "draft value picks"No matter what kind of league you're in, always draft the best guy on the board. In one league, I have Howard, Berkman and Konerko. I didnt plan it that way but they were the best players available when I drafted. Howard will be my 1B, Berkman is eligible at OF for some reason and Konerko will be my Util. So yea, i don't like to draft pitchers in the early rounds but that doesn't mean I won't draft Johan Santana if he falls to the second round.
3/24/2007 3:04:00 PM
first 2-3 rounds I take the best player available overall (unless the player would double up an infield position). Unless I can get Johan Santana, I usually wont take a pitchernext few rounds I try to make sure I pick up a good player in the positions with not a lot of depth, with a good pitcher or two mixed in depending on who's availableonce I get my fielding positions filled, I'll take a couple more fielders who can play multiple positions, but the rest of the draft I will designate to pitching. The more pitchers the better in my opinion

My leagues are 12 team AL & NL head2head leagues with 5 pitching & hitting categories. Since 6 pitchers score as much as 10 hitters, pitching is extremely valuable. I try to grab the best overall value (weighting for position) the first 2/3 rounds, then I will load up on pitching. I usually take 5 or 6 pitchers through rounds 3-10. 1 or 2 stud pitchers isn't important, but having 4 good SP's & 2 solid closers is a winning combination. Then after that, I'll just fill in my hitters. I may trade down my top picks or players too to get more good players too, as oppossed to studs.Using this strategy, I've finished in the top 2 in 1 of my 2 leagues (either the AL or NL) each of the last 3 years. The other one usually is killed by injuries.
