Attempted Armed Robbery

Thursday, March 22, 2007 at approximately 2:30 A.M., two male students
were walking at the intersection of Dan Allen Drive and Thurman Drive
when a car pulled up to them. The back seat passenger stuck his head
out the window, displayed a small, silver handgun, and demanded money
from the students.

The students ran; as they ran they heard a gunshot. The students were
not injured.

Description;
Car: small, 4-door, white, dirty, older
Back seat passenger: male wearing a red bandana up to the bridge of
his nose.
Driver and other passenger are unknown.

Anyone with information or a seeing car matching this description
around this time or location should call the Campus Police at 515-3000
or Crime Stoppers at 226-2746.

Safety Tips:..."

This is the second crime alert in a row where the description of the suspect(s) has been laughable. No race info? Was the guy black, white, asia, purple.... ? The guy had a gun, this isn't a time to be PC about these sorts of things. I also love the red bandana pulled up over the nose. It's like an Old West villian. Maybe if I see this guy I can call the Lone Ranger for help.

It happened this morning. The only thing [old] is realizing they never catch these guys.

Maybe some State students should set a trap for these guys and open up on the car with hunting rifles. I guarantee they'll never do it again and it will give their bottom feeder friends second thoughts about trying to rob State students.

I'd like to think these guys are never caught becuase there's a secret room in the basement of campus police headquarters where people who violently harass NCSU students leave feet first. Sadly, I think the investigation arm of campus police is a little lacking.

The best I've seen campus police was when I saw a flight about to start out of the window of my apartment across the street from ES King. I called the campus police to let them know there were two loud and drunk dudes about to start throwing punches and that there was a girl caught up in it. A few minutes later, one of the guys started shoving the girl around pretty hard. I thought he was going to hit her. So, I grabbed my 4-cell mag light and went to go intervene. I mean, the two guys could beat on eachother all they want, but don't drag the crying girlfriend into the mix and then start beating on here. Luckily for everyone, campus police pulled up right as I stepped out of my house (they came in force too, 4 cars) and thus, they prevented me from getting felony assult charges for for cracking the skull of a drunk guy who was angry at his girl and thought it might be cool to beat on her.

^^^ Good plan--except the Campus Police would then arrest you for having a firearm on campus. And you would eventually be charged with somehow violating the rights of the accused.

If I had to guess I would think these are probably gang initiations or trying to earn rep in the gang. The color of course would make me guess Blood.
perhaps the reason they didn't notice the type of car or other passengers is tunnel vision. who knows. Looking down the barrel of a gun can be frightening to most people.

Yea, having the bloods in Raleigh is cruel irony. Are we supposed to not wear red now?

Instead of "Wear red, get fed," it will be "Wear red, get shot."

College sports is too big in North Carolina for gang colors to work...unless they start picking colors like "lime green" and "peach".

Probably less chance of getting shot than standing right in front of them, where they might get spooked and shoot anyway. I don't imagine these guys have the best aim out of a car window.

Most people can't hit shit with a handgun. The better question might be "who stands there waiting to get shot."

He's a guy with a handgun in a car. Odds are, he's not exactly well-trained. His accuracy is going to be abysmal. Surprisingly few people can hit a moving target with any accuracy even with a rifle in a much stabler position, and far fewer -- especially little hoodlums like this -- could hit someone running away with a little pistol.

In short, running was not the worst idea. Probably safer to just hand the guy your money, but I'm not going to think these guys are stupid for splitting.

And as to not recognizing the car . . . I can't be alone in my total inability to tell different makes of car apart.

Who was the football player shot a couple of years ago in a similar incident? The robber got spooked and shot him when he got up to give him the money.

Doubt it, I knew weapons of any kind were outlawed in all the residence halls but I didn't know it was campus wide. On that note, what defines 'campus' because I'd assume you could CC walking down Hillsborough street or some other public area around here...

If you're on the campus side of Hillsborough, or on any part of Hillsborough where the university owns property adjacent to the sidewalk, they would be able to bust you for illegal weapons posession. They cover that pretty hard in the CC classes.

I guess you would run behind the car then try to jump behind a wall. Fucking ballsy to run like that.

This is why you carry a concealed GRENADE.

someone might want to check into it, but campus police has jurisdiction (aka they can pull you over) on avent ferry road from main campus to greek way, hillsborough main campus to vet school, blue ridge to rbc, & i-40 / wade ave. by state fairgrounds & rbc center
so i would think you could get nailed for concealed in any of those places because it's considered campus.

Quote :
"Jurisdiction:

The jurisdiction of the North Carolina State University Police Department includes all property owned or leased by NC State University and that portion of any public road or highway passing through the campus and immediately adjoining the campus.

The NC State University Police Department have mutual aid agreements with the City of Raleigh and the Wake County Sheriff's Department. NC State University Police Department jurisdiction can be extended into those areas when the department receives a request for assistance. In addition, an NC State University Police Officer have various mutual aid agreements with other universities throughout the sixteen campus systems to provide assistance during a special event or emergency. I take back a lot of the doubts I had about campus police's ability to catch criminals after the fact. It looks like they have the guys in custody. Of course, RPD did most of the leg work according to the Technician, but someone who did something bad at NCSU actually got caught. I'm pleased.

^^ The law prohibits weapons on campuses, so if you're not on their property, you should be fine.

It's hard to hit the broad side of a barn with a handgun, much less a moving barn from a moving tractor.

Just because campus police cover that area, doesn't mean that property is part of campus. it is my understanding that campus police and RPD have many overlapping areas.

Also, there is a difference between school grounds and "state property" when it come to CC...buildings, land, sidewalks are all different.

But shouldn't you feel safe, since it's illegal to carry a gun on campus? After all, if you ban it, no one's going to do it, right. RIGHT?

I fucking hate having to disarm before class, a movie, the bank... It's fucking stupid.
