Hand-checking: It is illegal. It really hurts the game. PLEASE call it.Charging: Please make people establish position before calling it, as there is way to much sprinting out and flopping. Also consider a semi-circle under the rim like the NBA has.

anticipation whistles.....stop that

hand checking doesn't hurt the game. it's a faggity foul to call. even more faggity to bitch about it."owie, reffie! that guy just slapped my forearm.""shut it, pussy.""ooooh! i'm telling!"

It's fine to place your fingertips on an opponent, that's legal, but when the ballhandler starts to make a move forward and then the defenders fingertips turn into the entire palm of his hand resisting the ball handler's movement forward, that's a foul (see Greg Paulus and entire Duke roster since 1990). I'd like to see them draw the restricted area in the paint, and Paulus's flop against VCU (of all teams) should have been a T as in other sports[Edited on March 21, 2007 at 9:51 AM. Reason : .]

They also need to start calling more intentional fouls. There is nothing wrong with fouls at the end of the game, but when they become flagrant/too hard there is a problem. Greg Oden in the Xavier game is just the latest example of this. Xavier absolutely should have gotten 2 shots and the ball. If they start calling this more often, teams will be more careful about being so crazy with the fouls.

the semi circle "no charge zone" under the basket.

move the 3 point line backat least to international length (20.5 feet), preferably further

i want them to stop calling fouls when an offensive player initiates contact with a defender posting with his arms straight up. and call the damn charge when it's a charge (see: mcsob's dunk on gavin).
3/21/2007 10:32:46 AM
i agree about the charge circlehand checking already has rules, right? like you can touch them with either hand but not both at once? i dont have a problem with thatalso they need to do like the Pistons did and implement the Jordan rules Psycho T rules[Edited on March 21, 2007 at 10:33 AM. It's an excuse for being lazy and it helps unathletic players stay with guys who should go right around them. It's a rule. Not every sport should be football.

"and call the damn charge when it's a charge (see: mcsob's dunk on gavin)." ok, that was a flop. who cares anyways, state won

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3QaT8WpgBwwtf. That was a flop? Are you kidding? He took a knee to the chest. Paulus falling down when the VCU guy game charging in was a flop. Gavin didn't flop at all. He didn't fall until he did take the blow to the chest..

^ thank you!

Actually, any hand contact with the dribbler in the backcourt is a FOUL. It is understandable to let occassional minor contact go now and then, but not habitual control of the offensive player. A forearm on a guy backing in is OK. Anyone that thinks hand-checking doesn't matter has no idea how easy it is for a player with any strength whatsoever to manhandle a ball-handler without getting called for it. I really don't understand how the NCAA keeps making battling in the post a point of emphasis while ignoring the backcourt.Nym410 is on point. It helps less athletic players (and teams with favorable officiating) "defend".

definitely a flop, shane battier style. fall at the first hint of contact. it was a good no call.(not the oden foul, the mcroberts/grant play. oden pushed that guy out)[Edited on March 21, 2007 at 2:02 PM. Reason : .]
3/21/2007 2:02:10 PM
he might as well have punted the guy into the crowd
3/21/2007 2:14:37 PM
all this is great, but the biggest officiating problem is lack of consistency. So many refs will blow their whistle on something that only gets called when they feel like calling it. A blatent charge may be let go as a no call, where later somehow a lesser one is called. It seems lots of the time officials are trying to make it an even amount of calls so no one can complain about unfair officials.that and players have to spend ~5-10 minutes of the game learning how much a ref is gonna call/let them get away with
3/21/2007 2:24:53 PM
^I agree but the game is so fast, athletes are so well maintained, that it is almost impossible to pick up everything that happens. I had a guy tell me once that, technically, a foul could be called on any contact. I don't agree with that if you want consistency...it would totally change the game though.
3/21/2007 2:32:55 PM
yeah, refs are human. Sometimes something might look worse than it was, other times it may be the opposite. Kinda like the whole Duke Vs Hansbeak. Some ppl thought it was blatant, others thought it was obviously an accident.
3/21/2007 2:38:23 PM
Pretty sure hand-checking is legal only if 1) its only one hand and 2) it doesn't impede the players movement. Atleast on the perimeter this is what I've heard...On a sorta related note, it seems whenever a team presses us and gets a turnover its because our player gets double teamed and gang raped in the backcourt or around the perimeter. Just because a player picks up his dribble doesn't mean you can stand right beside him and then lean over him effectively push over. I remember numerous times when two players would chest one of our guys to the ground and then get a traveling call..../rantoff

^^thats a good point. That actually happened a bunch yesterday. Nothing wrong with a strong double team but you cant bump the fuck out of them, especially when...this...

Calling a travel, or foul on UNC.
3/21/2007 11:04:08 PM
they don't call fouls on carolina?ever?not once?that is ridiculious
3/22/2007 12:15:12 AM
^I'm glad you at least didn't include travel in your statement. But to be serious, I would like the 3 second lane violation to be monitored more often, as well as the illegal picks. [Edited on March 22, 2007 at 12:53 AM. Reason : .]
3/22/2007 12:50:04 AM
oh, and they need to be more aware of people carrying the ball. i thought the refs did better this year about it, but honestly a lot of college and especially pro seems to be "handles" where the player carries the ball several times on one drive
3/22/2007 12:57:58 AM
stop calling traveling when it doesnt give and advantage. everytime somebody catches and fakes its a travel
3/22/2007 1:00:58 AM
I agree with the offensive player initiating contact with the defense. Either don't call it or call it on the guy who initiated contact. I'm sick of seeing offensive players throw themselves into the defender, no intention whatsoever on making a shot or even a "basketball move," just doing it to get a foul call knowing the pansy-ass ref is gonna call it.
3/22/2007 1:02:55 AM
o, they NEVER call 3 secondswatch carefully, it happens a lot
