So they are either going to turn it into office buildings or a park basically.I hope everybody will support it as becoming a park. It will improve NCSU dramatically and give students something decent to do in Raleigh. They are probably gonna attach it onto Pullen Park and part of NCSU. Either it's going to be a new part of NCSU or a bunch of shitty offices.Remember NCSU is ranked as one of the ugliest campuses in america right now, which Dix Park can improve.linky:http://www.newsobserver.com/559/story/553124.html

I mean, having a park is cool and allbut I'm kinda torn on thisthe city could make some profit and releive some tax burden on the taxpayers also (not that they will)and it's not like people are flocking to any of the other parks around here
3/19/2007 5:21:09 PM
if i'm not mistaken, it's state, not city land.
3/19/2007 5:26:31 PM
but a park like this could give something raleigh to be proud of. we don't have much right now.in 20 years, when you say you went to NC Sate, it will make you look a hell of alot better because this can improve NCSU's image and quality.also a great quote from that article:In 100 years, not one of our grandchildren will look at us and say, "I'm sure glad you decided to sell off what used to be 306 acres of open space. Who needs all those trees?"Think of the kids who would grow up in an increasingly crappy Raleigh in the future. Is it better to get $50 from a tax break or do something people will remember?

I don't see your logic on it becoming part of NCSU...unless State buys it...and incase you hadn't noticed Raleigh has a shit ton of really nice parks that students can go to...
3/19/2007 6:11:53 PM
one of the nicknames for raleigh is "the park with a city in it"yeah, we don't have any parks. but yeah, leaving a good amount of trees would be good.

There is plenty of space downtown for condos and high end homes. People are constanltly renovating and turning over properties there for a profit. This land is a one time oppertunity to preserve a huge green space that will be convenient to all of Raleigh. I say keep the park and let the development spread around it as it is already doing. This is not some tree hugger/pork barrel project that will cost the city a ton of money, the State already owns the land. If people would like to develop condos around it they can purchase a city block and do so just as developers all along glenwood and boylan have.
3/19/2007 7:18:37 PM
shitty offices?they have plans for a lot more than that. I hope they develop all but 20 or so acres.

I love how people say a park is good for our children. I would be inclined to agree except for the fact that Dix is across the street from a prison.
3/19/2007 9:44:16 PM
PEOPLE ESCAPE ALL THE TIME. (and i doubt many of these same people would advise taking children to a park without supervision)

how cool would it be if the land was indeed reserved as a park, and then it becomes our version of "central park" in like 20 years? that'd be awesome.i guess i should've read the thread before posting. [Edited on March 19, 2007 at 11:48 PM. Reason : ]

This land could have generated a ton of tax revenue years ago.......it could generate exponentially more now. The fact is that setting it aside for all to enjoy has driven up the quality of life for all residents of the city and at the same time positvely affected property values surrounding it. That tax revenue goes in to the coffers of NYC year after year.

that would be a big park

^For a city with like 1 1/2 tall buildings.
3/20/2007 7:27:59 AM
where is this park again?
3/20/2007 7:42:34 AM
RALEIGH IS NOT, AND NEVER WILL BE WHAT NEW YORK CITY IS. WE ALREADY HAVE ENOUGH GOD DAMNED TREES AND PARKS FILLED UP BY WHITE MIDDLE CLASS PEOPLE WHO LET THEIR DOGS RUN AROUND AND SHIT ON EVERYTHING AND DONT CLEAN IT UP.

I vote NCSU buy dix hill simply for sweet halloween parties. It would be scary as hell.

I heard that centennial course was a nightmare for losing discs if you aren't better than decent
5/9/2015 9:07:01 PM
They changed it a few years back, and the new first hole that they created is a bitch. That, and the 6th or 7th hole that has the woods on the left. that one blows as well.We always go to Centennial if we dont have much time to waste. Kentwood is a lot more fun. A course on Dix would be amaaaazing...

Centennial isn't that great. The possibilities for a course at Dix are endless. They could seriously build something world class / USPDA Championship quality.
