in the NCAA?As for my opinion, this year definately better to be playing in the NIT, considering how strong the field is.
3/18/2007 10:21:47 PM
there is no argumentgetting to the ncaa's is better than playing in the NIT, whether you win it or not
3/18/2007 10:24:21 PM
^ yepIf we are what we claim to everyone who we perceive as knocking us, the NCAA is the goal EVERY year. Making the NIT is better than making NO postseason, but a NCAA appearance is better 100% of the time no matter the length of the stay..
3/18/2007 10:26:07 PM
It is never better to be playing in the NIT.
3/18/2007 10:26:20 PM
^that is true, but we have a new coach and a lot of young kids on our team. it is better for them to continue to play and get better, than to get their asses handed to them in a first round tourney game.
3/18/2007 10:27:17 PM
its more fun to be in the NIT while its still going on rather than losing in the first round of the NCAA'sbut after the season looking back you'd always rather be one of the final 65 teams than number 66
3/18/2007 10:28:40 PM
a run in the NIT would be more fun to the fanbaseespecially if you're one and done by means of being a high seed and blowing a first round game to a nobody, which can make for a really long offseasonbut yeah, NCAAs is the answer to this inquiry
3/18/2007 10:31:52 PM
being one and done in the NCAA does not get you a banner in the RBC center
3/18/2007 10:32:08 PM
actually, yes it does
3/18/2007 10:32:54 PM
yeah it does
3/18/2007 10:35:24 PM
NCAA, just ask the players.NCAA = pure energyNIT = pfft
3/18/2007 10:36:17 PM
Depends, given the situation with a new coach and 3 starters leaving and brack playing baseball + Engin's injury, the NIT is just fine. In a perfect world, sure, we'd get 3 Mc D AA's every year and not have to worry about it. But all things equal I think winning the NIT is better than one and done in the NCAA. However, winning a game in the NCAA negates winning the NIT, in my opinion. It's another banner in the RBC. However, for us this season with said circumstances, we are just fine because of our recruiting class and the fact that we are going to end the season winning no fewer than 5 of our last 7. I'd rather do that then stumble into the NCAA's and be one and done once you get to the NCAA.
3/18/2007 10:36:53 PM
^yeah, that
3/18/2007 10:38:28 PM
winner of the nit should get a bye to the sweet 16 somehow
3/18/2007 10:39:03 PM
I heard someone say "well for THIS team its better to be playing in the NIT and getting practices"um...no...cause if THIS team was playing in the NCAA tournament, WE'D BE THE FUCKING ACC CHAMPIONS.
3/18/2007 10:39:42 PM
seriously? i need to pay attention next time im in there...
3/18/2007 10:39:54 PM
It's more of a recruiting tool, I mean the banner literally translates to "we are one of the 64 best teams in Year ___ if you are one and done. We were 5 out of the last 5 for the NCAAs, so yea it'd be nice to walk up to recruits and say "6 straight." I remember when UNC had like 27 straight years of finishing 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in the ACC reg. season. Pretty imrpessive for recruits, and then Doh came along and fixed that.[Edited on March 18, 2007 at 10:52 PM. Reason : .]

The NIT National champion is still the 66th best team in the country...
3/18/2007 11:41:04 PM
^you are a fucking moron if you think that, please edit now and change the number
3/18/2007 11:50:31 PM
^ why? becuase 65 teams make the NCAA (including the play in game) and the Champion of the NIT can say, "Hey we're the best school that didn't make the NCAA's, making us school number 66?and before you say there's all kinds of teams that made it in by winning conference tournaments and aren't really that good. That's fine, but at least they made the tournament.

Has anyone ever turned down a NCAA invite?
3/19/2007 12:13:42 AM
uh, yes. 1975 ncsu team

I wasn't being facetious.

It seems I am not alone.
3/19/2007 1:07:27 AM
i mean it is always better to get to the NCAA but i mean take what you can get. but i support my team no matter what...weather it be ncaa, nit, or no tournament at all.
3/19/2007 1:21:14 AM
3/19/2007 1:26:47 AM
^I see what you did there.
3/19/2007 1:28:41 AM
Given all the stuff we endured this season, and all the stuff we were up against even at "full" strength, I'm okay with making the NIT. It's not the Big Dance and certainly nobody should aspire to make the NIT, but if the NIT is what you get then you at least want to perform well. Say we lose Monday -- it's not like anybody will say, "Let's stumble through another season and show that we CAN win the NIT next season!" The second this season ends the guys will be busting their tails, shooting for the '08 NCAAs.
3/19/2007 1:42:09 AM
^^
3/19/2007 1:44:50 AM
Well to be a one and done in the NCAA is not a great thing. You need to win some of the games. This year the NIT was an accomplishment for us. If we had not made a run through the ACC tourny we wouldn't have gotten into the NIT. So for this year the farther we go the better we look. Next year its back to the NCAA or bust.
3/19/2007 7:14:18 AM

3/19/2007 7:19:42 AM
you're insane if you think losing in the first round of the ACC, and NCAA is better than playing through an NIT.that would probably be the most frustrating thing to watch as a fan. at least we sucked , knew we had no shot, and were pleasantly surprised.
3/19/2007 7:22:38 AM
i think winning the nit is on par with making the sweet sixteen. consider that the top seeded nit teams are bubble teams who didn't make it. winning a 5 game post-season national tournament isn't anything to scoff at. some of the schools playing in this year's nit, like fsu and syracuse, should've been in the ncaa tourney over illinois, arkansas, and all the mid-majors.[Edited on March 19, 2007 at 7:29 AM. I would rather win the NIT than go one-and-done in the NCAA. well, if you are just looking at the scope of one season, that is
3/19/2007 7:42:55 AM
3/19/2007 7:58:16 AM
I'd rather win the NIT than lose in the first round.
3/19/2007 8:06:35 AM
3/19/2007 8:25:25 AM
I'D RATHER WIN AN NCAA NATIONAL TITLE EVERY YEARi'm glad our postseason is actually still going unlike most years at this point
3/19/2007 8:46:48 AM
I'd rather make the NCAA obviously. I think its stupid to say "hurr hurrr at least we're still playing!!11!" when its really only that; we're playing another game. Even if we won the entire NIT, it would be a footnote on the year because nobody outside of us would actually care. Who won the NIT last year? Year before?Sure, for this team this year after such a suck season its pretty amazing to still be playing. However, I think the shit would lose its luster if went to again next year and the year after that.

but as a fan of the University, playing well at the end of the season (even if it is the NIT) bodes well for our future in experience as well as recruiting because of national exposure. We are one or two pieces away from making a run like this in the NCAA's instead of the NIT.Considering what Sidney was working with in his first year here, I really couldnt be happier.
3/19/2007 9:08:36 AM
i didn't even know what NIT stood for
3/19/2007 9:08:54 AM
3/19/2007 9:09:23 AM
It's better to go out in the first round of the NCAA's because reaching the tournament reflects on your entire win-loss record. It means you had a stellar year with alot of victories and that more than makes up for post season heroics in the NIT.With that said, let's pretend we were magically given a ticket to the NCAA and lost in the first round. It wouldn't really mean anything to us because we had an average win-loss record and didn't really deserve the invite (based on our record). In this case, I'd much rather go on a strong run in the NIT to build confidence for next season.
3/19/2007 9:17:47 AM
3/19/2007 9:17:51 AM
even if you win the NIT, you werent good enough to get in the NCAAs.
