Depends on what you wanna spend. Jotto desk is the best I have seen, my buddy has one in his disco. I have some shitty plumbing project gone bad in my disco that was in there when I bought it, you can get them on eBay for $30. Scuba steve has one that I like, I think he got it from eBay too, but I cant find it. I want a Jotto desk.

what's the difference in a nice one and a cheap one? i'm guessing stability for one...i mean, i don't want to spend a fortune but i want something that's going to work decent. i don't seem something fancy just for the name or because it has 800 gadgets.[Edited on March 12, 2007 at 12:30 AM. Adjustability, ease of removal, stability, and of course keeping the laptop on the damn thing.

dppending on what vehicle it goes into (that bus you been talking about?) and whether your in-dash monitor has a touchscreen interface or not if you are planning to use it. also depends whther you want it removable or not and whether you are goiong to play cd's/dvds through the laptop or thrpough the headunit (i assume you are trying to use it with that Boss unit you got a little while back). assuming you are running the boss unit, it would be a cleaner install to have a docking station for your latop in unconspicous location, then run a trackball or a latop-style usb-based pointing device or a custom arrow keypad next to the headunit (assuming it is not a touchscreen with USB interface already) and connect that to a docking station. might even have mini full wireless keyboard stashed in there for when you need to type in information for gps.also connect a usb gps receiver to the docking station. that way you dock your laptop without having to hook and unhook all those wires every time you want to take it home. run xp media edition, it will make interface easier (that boss unit probably tops out at vga resolution). if space/clean install is not a concern, then just get a mount like Optmus said and enjoy the high-resolution of the laptop lcd and access to full keyboard, then run headphone put to your headunit rca in.

yeah, it's for that bus/rv i'm getting. space and the cleanliness of the install are not a concern. that boss touch screen deal is for my corvette.plans for this thing are an external lcd flat screen monitor for video. ~20 inches or so. i'm just going to get a decent regular am/fm/cd reciever with an aux. input for the laptop audio. i plan to use the laptop for gps, playing dvd's, and mp3's.those jotto desk mounts are $texas. i don't want to spend that much, but i guess i will if they're really worth it.[Edited on March 12, 2007 at 12:59 AM. Reason : yeah, the prices in those links are a little more like it...]
3/12/2007 12:56:32 AM
yea, just get whatever you can find on ebay. The big difference between a Jotto or other high end mount is going to be the vibration dampening. The el-cheapo's will jiggle a little bit more, but probably won't even be noticeable.

the jottos are very very nice, but not worth 300+ new. im either getting a used one or one of those ebay ones. im glad you made this thread and reminded me.
3/12/2007 1:05:35 AM
cool. yeah, plus it's not like i have some super duper laptop to keep in perfect condition either. just a dirt cheap/basic dell that i happened to catch when they had them even further discounted...i think maybe i'll get that one in the third link... i like the joint on the horizontal arm.

3/12/2007 8:06:16 PM
HELL FUCKIN YEAH! can you say roadtrip!
3/12/2007 11:40:32 PM
true. can you say 36ft. tag trailer also.
3/12/2007 11:50:14 PM
haha, replied to the tech talk thread..and damn i'm interested in getting an rv or something similiar soon too. I guess it's a sign of age when you sell a corvette to buy land then want an RV instead of a sports car now that it's possible again..
