So I got a couple letters of recommendation written- but i want to apply to 4 different schools. How do I get these letters sent to all of the schools? Do I have to ask the people to send it 4 times? is that my only option? I was going to only apply to NCSU but have recently found a couple more to try my luck with...any suggestions?

Why is asking them a problem? If they aren't willing to drop the letter in the mail, I'd really hate to trust them with writing a positive recommendaiton. I provided mine with pre-addressed postage-paid envelopes to make everything as easy as possible.

It's standard for the department of the recommending professor to mail the sealed recommendation letters (no cost to them and a administrative assistant does it for them).I did give them envelopes with the addresses on them though.[Edited on March 12, 2007 at 3:40 AM. Reason : .]

Depends. If they have it in electronic format, it only takes 5 minutes to change the date at the top, print, sign, and mail it out. You *should* be on good enough terms with the folks that wrote the letters to make a request for additional copies to be sent out. They *should* want to encourage and help you to apply to additional schools if you choose to do so. If it was original letter was hand-written, um, take them out to lunch, or ask another individual.

these are all good points. i am on very good terms with them, but I feel like I'll be putting them out by asking them to copy it out more.

best to ask after you know where you want to apply to avoid having to bother them again. it isntly like printing and folding 2 more copies would normally be an issue.

I had my letters of reccomendation addressed "to whom" and then scanned into PDFs.i send em out with emails.but that wouldnt really help you with grad schools...so, um...nevermind

Don't worry; I seriously doubt your professors are going to be upset if you ask them to send out a few more for you (unless they're due by tomorrow or something). The honest truth is that once a professor has written a recommendation letter for a person, they usually save a copy so they can just change the name of the addressee and mail it out again. Most professors expect to send out multiple copies.Now if you keep approaching them (usually four or more times) during a single round of applications, they may wonder if you really know what you want out of graduate school, but other than that, you should be fine.If the apps are those electronic forms, as long as you give them the usual lead time (a couple weeks to a month), I think you'll be okay.

LSAC does make it easy for Law School, but yeah it should not be a prob for your recommenders to send multiple letters to diff places. Just make it as simple as possible with pre address & stamped envelopes... III
