On March 31st, a Saturday, my company is opening its doors for a manufacturing tour. If you are interested in a pharmaceutical career, this would be a great informational opportunity for you. It begins at 1pm and will end roughly at 3. Catering will be provided. Cameras are not allowed. The site is big, so there will be a lot of walking. If you have questions feel free to ask.

Is it the plant in Sanford Industrial Park that's right next to the Caterpillar plant?
3/11/2007 2:14:49 PM
Yes, thats right.
3/11/2007 2:37:06 PM
what type of openings do you have there?
3/11/2007 3:13:06 PM
I forgot to add you need to be accompanied with a Wyeth employee in order to gain entry to the site. Also jobs can be found at http://jobsearch.wyethpharma.newjobs.com/. Not too many are available right now, but there are new buildings being built which will open up some space.

What are they looking for? Anything with Six Sigma related experience in manufacturing environment?

I'm sure six sigma is something that would look good upon you. They also offer the training courses up to blackbelt for six sigma. What are they looking for? Relevant experience, education, and a good attitude is a good place to start. There are many departments open to a wide variety of educational backgrounds but BLS and ChemE graduates are at a good starting point.

what about PharmD degree?
3/11/2007 8:55:17 PM
any need for chemists?
3/12/2007 12:20:26 AM
PharmD's i dont think are covered in Sanford. Chemists are welcome, I have 2 spots open to take any interested but i need to set the ground rules up if you are to go. Thanks.
3/12/2007 12:40:59 PM
^where's PharmD covered?
3/12/2007 3:58:20 PM
Honestly, Wyeth is so large, I wouldnt know where to tell a pharmD to apply. I dont think it would hurt to apply for a job anyways, whats the worst that could happen?
3/12/2007 11:48:52 PM
It is a large company that is expanding, I worked there for 2 years before taking a job offer in RTP, I enjoyed my time there and may go back if the right opportunity arises.
3/13/2007 5:00:50 PM
(Too lazy to look). Whats the opportunity like for those who specialize in molecular sciences? Specifically those interested in agriculture?
3/13/2007 5:44:24 PM
I thought Wyeth was doing layoffs in Sanford....in fact, I know they were doing layoffs in January. They're also supposedly losing a lot of employees to the new Merck plant in Durham.
3/14/2007 7:54:52 AM
Wyeth to my knowledge has not laid anyone off. People leave of their own volition, yes, that I will not argue against.
3/15/2007 11:44:59 PM
is the open house specifically for ChemE graduates or will they welcome people looking for a job in pharmaceutical sales?
3/19/2007 4:36:18 PM
^ people at my plant think that the manufacturing experience will somehow help them into sales. they're two completely different arms of a pharma company.i don't work for Wyeth, but I can't tell you that there will be nothing to do with sales positions at a manufacturing open house.

BTW, what's is the best major to work @Pham. companies?Bio. chem?(Im in the process of changing my major)
3/22/2007 7:36:48 PM
Anything in the BLS sciences will help you in a pharm. some degrees apply specifically to a pharm. I find ChemE's make out the best in starting salary but that is subject to change over time.
