So, I tried searching for this in google without any luck and a search for "vista" on here returned nothing so I'm assuming the search isn't working right or something. Anyways, if you've used Vista you've probably been annoyed by the damn warning messages that confirm every other thing you do... Hell I saw a new Apple commercial that was even making fun of it and on the commercial the kid that represents Apple said that if you turn off the warnings then you aren't protected, blah blah blah buy an Apple instead... So, my question is there anyway to turn these damn things off?? I mean even when I turn the computer on it makes me confirm that I want to run half the programs that are in the startup group, even AIM and ICQ have to be approved. I don't remember any of this in the beta copy I used a while back but I believe it was one of the first available releases.nvm, I just found some info on google where it's a pretty commonly hated thing...so I won't delete the rest of what I wrote, but does anybody have any new information on this little 'problem'?Thanks,Carson

hehe, besides the obvious...and I am seriously considering that option lately. Will macs run vista now? I guess that wouldn't fix the problem though now would it haha

it wouldn't fix the problem.. but using Parallels or Bootcamp (forget which does what) Vista will run on a Mac (intel-based one)you can turn off UAC.. I hear you can change the settings so that it only warns on certain things..from what I've experienced UAC is nothing but ActiveX issues all over again.. people will just click OK/Yes/Please continue and not actually read what's going on.

There a setting somewhere in group policy (Start, Run, gpedit.msc) that will do this ... or maybe it was security policy (secpol.msc). I can't remember exactly where it is ... Google it up.[Edited on March 9, 2007 at 5:12 AM. Reason : .]

yea you can turn it off

Control panel > User Accounts > User Account ControlBut that doesn't fix the fact that even if you're logged in as a member of the administrators group, your abilities are still seriously hamstrung unless you "Run as Administrator" everything

^ only when using Parallels (their VirtualPC software).. With bootcamp you can use any version since you're technically installing a second OS/dual boot configuration

ps vista still sucks cock even without the warnings. the only thing i like is being able to search the start menu by clicking on it and then just typing what you want to find. besides that and some aesthetics it's pretty annoyingly slow.
3/13/2007 11:17:39 AM
i dont think it is slow at all. i just put it on my 2yo laptop and it runs good. startup is a bit slower than XP but once it's running it's just as fast or faster than XP. i've noticed on some programs there is no hang upon initial opening like in XP.

well, for most things I agree with you and was actually kinda surprised.. the real pain in the ass and maybe it's just a problem on my computer but when I try to click on the wireless networking icon in the sys tray it brings up a blank white menu and takes like 5 minutes literally for everything to show up, if it even comes up at all. Sometimes I'll have to restart just to get it to show me the menu where I can select which wireless network I want to be on at all. Also it will never connect automatically to any networks so I have to get that screen to come up every time I turn the computer. And yes I've selected "start automatically" on every connection.also this laptop is pretty much brand new, I don't remember the specs on it but it's like 1gb ram and around 2ghz so it's not a POS computer or anything[Edited on March 13, 2007 at 11:48 AM. odd..i havent had any wireless issues yet. i'm running home premium and when i go into my wireless menus and stuff they load up right away. and my connection is always saved when i go into standby or restart or whatever. what Vista version and build number are you using? your wireless drivers all current?
3/13/2007 12:20:28 PM
that is a constant problem with our company and Vista (connecting wirelessly automatically)annoying.

is the 3d scrolling through windows, taskbar window preview, and the window preview while using "alt-tab" only available in 64bit? I just reinstalled Vista for 32bit instead of 64bit and all that stuff is gone.

downloading the drivers for my vid card...maybe thats it.
5/9/2007 12:51:06 PM
^^^^^^^^ Maybe you just worded your post wrong, but it's not Alt-Tab for the 3d scrolling ... it's Win-Tab
5/9/2007 7:30:13 PM
^no no, i wasn't referring to the 3d scrolling via keyboard shortcut cause well, i wasn't aware there was one but thanks for telling me! I was referring to the standard alt-tab shortcut that showed the window previews in a flat 2d pane.
5/9/2007 7:31:26 PM
Ah gotcha, welcome anyway!
5/9/2007 7:49:32 PM
hmm...are you sure its just windows-tab? cause that just tabs like normal for some reason. (by normal i mean through selectable text in a window or through items on the task-bar). At first i thought it was cause i had my windows key disabled through the switch on the G15 keyboard...but after toggling the switch its still not working but the windows key alone works.
