my roomate just misplaced the only mailbox key that we had, i go to the rental office and ask for the copy and the lady says she has no key for my apt and it'd cost 45$ to get the locks re-keyed. now i know it was my roomates dumbass fault for losing the key but are landlords not required to keep copies ? btw i live in a 4 bdrm apt that gives individual leases so shouldn't each tenant should get a copy?

[no]you lose this battle.those things are expensive to replace b/c they arent the property of the landlord.same thing happened to me, but I found mine.good luck, sucker!
3/7/2007 2:00:06 PM
Make the dumbass who lost it pay.
3/7/2007 2:00:45 PM
Consult your lease about the number of keys, though, it probably doesn't specify. The landlord doesn't have to have a copy. Plus, getting a lock rekeyed after a key is lost isn't a terrible idea.
3/7/2007 2:01:26 PM
well another thing is that they evicted a guy form my apt about 5 mons ago and said they were going to have to rekey everyhting. the shierff came and rekeyed the doors so technically they owe us a rekey anyway think i coudl argue that angle?[Edited on March 7, 2007 at 2:06 PM. Reason : .]
3/7/2007 2:05:40 PM
Yeah, unless the guy they evicted returned his keys to them, they should have rekeyed your shit.Furthermore, I wouldn't want my landlord having keys to my mailbox and apartment.

Its $11 a person. Stop bitching about it. In the time you have spent on here crying, you could have earned $11.
3/7/2007 2:13:49 PM
often mailbox keys are handled by the post office, not the leasing companies. you may want to check with them about a copy/new key[Edited on March 7, 2007 at 2:32 PM. Reason : .]

The last apt. I lived in both my roomie and I had a key to our mailbox and the landlord also had a two spares. They charged if any of the keys were not returned upon leaving or if they had to issue you another. I think it was also $45. As for having keys to your apt. I think all landlords have a copy to get in your shit because they can let in exterminators, police, etc... if need be. Make the roomie who lost his key pay the $45...it is his fault to begin with![Edited on March 7, 2007 at 3:17 PM. Reason : more]

Just let the mailbox fill up, it's all junk anyway.
3/7/2007 3:21:22 PM
Im pretty sure my landlord comes into my place and plays with my dog.i meanshe isnt refilling her water bowl by herselfi dont know how i feel about it, and he denies it.
3/7/2007 3:40:40 PM
^Does your dog bark or something?
3/7/2007 3:47:28 PM
....unless you aren't there and you didn't schedule the appointment.
3/7/2007 3:48:09 PM
I can do all the scheduling, as well. I'm not out of town on business for extended periods of time or anything.

Mine must have a copy, I asked for the room to be sprayed(roaches) and a staff member unlocked the door for him.

^^if i learned anything from law and order SVU, it's that the landlord can install cameras in an apt. without your knowledge, because it is his own property.

Well usually apt. bldgs. get sprayed for bugs n shit like every other month on a rotating schedule for the apt. complex. They have bldgs. 1-4 done in Jan and 5-8 done in Feb and back n forth n so on. On some of thos visits they don't just spray outside your home they come inside as well. Which is one reason they like to know if you have pets and/or kids so that they can convey to the exterminator if they should use a more pet/family friendly formula. And if you have a 9-5 you don't want your apt. complex telling you that you have to be at your apt. from 1-3 on said date to let the extermintor in hence the reason they go around with the exterminator to get the shit done in a timely manner. They always knock before they enter and usually send out or post a letter telling you what they are going to do or are doing. Hopefully they aren't coming in to cum in your undies so chill out. As a landlord it is kinda their right since it technically is their property!

Dear BridgetSPK,Do you own your own home? Because if you're renting, your landlord has a key.
3/8/2007 12:14:46 AM
landlords are sluts. no really they are. ie, angela with rhyne associates at gorman and western - sloot.
3/8/2007 12:16:06 AM
they have a key, they just want to hit you with fee's

^wow, its hard as fuck to find a place that will knowingly rent to you if you have a pitbull mix. PM me your renting company. I can't even seem to find someone who will rent to me with my Rott mix.
3/11/2007 9:39:02 AM
this is why the moment you get your keys you go get a copy made of them all at homedepot and put them in a drawer in the kitchen
3/11/2007 8:48:03 PM
You guys suck so bad.None of you care that a landlord can just come struttin in your place whenever they feel like it.They own it so it's their right, you say. Well, what the fuck do people pay rent for?Landlords are the enemy, folks.
3/14/2007 1:03:13 AM
You need to stop living in such shitty housing if your landlord is your enemy.

3/14/2007 8:31:48 AM
why can't the world cater to me?!?!?
3/14/2007 8:34:46 AM
Most of the time landlords don't just come in and strutt around in your place for no reason and they usually give you plenty of notice that they will be in your place. I mean seriously unless you have some perv...most people have a life and don't wanna come and rustle through your shit! Some people are just paranoid. And if ya don't like your landlord move and if ya don't like the whole idea of having a landlord then buy a house!
3/14/2007 8:59:06 AM
the she's going to complain about no one fixing stuff for free when it breaks down.
3/14/2007 9:06:53 AM
3/14/2007 9:54:36 AM
i'm pretty sure there's a law that states they can't just come "struttin around your place." I think you have to be notified first, unless it is an emergency (flood, fire, etc.) Even if this is not the case, I have always made sure that these things are outlined in my leasing agreement. B-SPK, if you're that bothered by a landlord entering your rental property, you should make sure to put it in your lease next time. We have always asked for atleast 24 hours notice before an unscheduled visit. Also, if a property is privately owned (i.e. someone who owns one or two apartments in a complex) the owner will typically keep their own key. It's their property/investment... it just makes sense.
3/14/2007 10:30:29 AM
^ Unless different terms are spelled out in your lease, your landlord can come and go as they please so long as they don't violate any state laws concerning harassment or privacy.
