Because some dumbass is trying to convince others to drop the program from schools.http://www.cnn.com/2007/EDUCATION/03/02/reading.for.pizza.ap/index.htmlI thoroughly enjoyed the program and I'm not fat/have bad eating habits.
3/6/2007 12:20:55 PM
Me either. It was a fun thing, made me read a ton.
3/6/2007 12:21:20 PM
fuck yeah i did, free pizza kicked ass
3/6/2007 12:23:29 PM
State does research on this, too.In theory, it's not the best way to motivate kids to read...
3/6/2007 12:28:48 PM
3/6/2007 12:30:03 PM
I gotta admit. I understand both points of view. Yeah, its great to have motivation for a kid to read a book or whatever, but I think just flipping through a book and "reading" it to get to what the kid really wants, pizza, isnt really the best thing either. I also understand the point about it undermining parents. It seems like getting that name association in a childs mind is a great way to have them drag the whole family in. I mean, yeah they have to give away a free personal pizza, but I'll bet a family will order one or two large pizzas they normally wouldnt. I guess its just a matter of POV. I dont know.
3/6/2007 12:30:42 PM
I had parents that gave a shit and made me read books/do homework.
3/6/2007 12:32:38 PM
mmmm ...i wish they still had this for college students
3/6/2007 12:32:47 PM
Instead of free pizza, they should just beat the kids senseless for reading.
3/6/2007 12:33:56 PM
there is already a thread on this - seeing as it's 4 days old once someone posts the link i'll lock this one - i can't find it
3/6/2007 12:44:43 PM
i couldn't find it either, so a new one exists!
3/6/2007 12:45:52 PM
I did!! I loved that shit
3/6/2007 12:59:29 PM
This shit was awesome! First grade, read a little book, get free pizza...what could be better??
3/6/2007 1:33:17 PM
yeah i read tiny books or faked it. that said, im not fat.
3/6/2007 1:54:49 PM
that was the only way i got pizza when i was little
3/6/2007 2:06:08 PM
3/6/2007 2:13:08 PM
i'm pretty hardcore about holding companies accountable for affecting societyi think there should be heavy regulations in place on the fast food industrythat being said...DON'T FUCKING TOUCH BOOK ITit's a great programand who doesn't love some motherfucking PIZZA?
3/6/2007 2:45:57 PM
DEAR FUCKTARDSSTOP TELLING PEOPLE HOW TO LIVE THEIR LIVESKKTHXBYE
3/6/2007 3:08:26 PM
It's not the one personal pan pizza a month that makes kids fat, it's the McDonald's every day.DON'T FUCK WITH BOOK IT
3/6/2007 3:38:44 PM
Kind of sad that it has come to this. Book it was great. A personal pizza is such an awesome prize at that age. To be fair, I skimmed most of those books.
3/6/2007 9:37:10 PM
I wore my pin with pride
3/6/2007 9:55:39 PM
It's probably some conspiracy cooked up be the video game industry. If kids read, then they don't play video games as much.
3/6/2007 9:57:07 PM
my mom didn't let me eat junk food no matter how many books I read
3/6/2007 10:10:13 PM
Our teacher would quiz us on each book we submitted to her. She would flip through the pages and ask us specifics that you wouldn't know unless you read it. I think the program is great and there is nothing wrong with a personal pan pizza a month... heck, it might be the only time the kids eat a pizza with some sort of portion control.
3/6/2007 10:28:33 PM
I remember reading a lot for some big school-wide competition, where each class tallied how many books it had read. The rest of my class was fucking lame and didn't read as much, though, so we totally lost.[Edited on March 6, 2007 at 10:35 PM. Reason : .]
3/6/2007 10:33:42 PM
^completely unfair competition. The class with the most girls and gays automatically wins.
3/6/2007 11:08:04 PM
book it was the shit, i still have my pin
3/7/2007 12:42:13 AM
i used to get the free pizza all the time wihout reading a single book.i would just say i read it get my pizza and that was that.
3/7/2007 2:56:11 AM
I think i still got some of those gigantic pins somewhere in my house.
3/7/2007 4:19:32 AM
i did it, but at the time i thought the pizza was nasty. i'd just give it to my brother.
3/7/2007 8:17:28 AM
i loved book it.
3/7/2007 8:21:17 AM
This is such bullshit.I remember Book It and have my pin still somewhere I believe. The pizza parties were cool but that didn't mean that I eat pizza every day later in life. (Even though I work near a Pizza Hut I eat there less than once a month.)
3/7/2007 9:13:56 AM
Free Pizza Hut Personal Pan Pizza for the win.
3/7/2007 9:22:26 AM

^simple, they don't. and the government rewards them for it....SS for instance....Welfare...etc.not saying they aren't good ideas but things have kinda changed a little since they were instituted
3/7/2007 11:08:13 AM
Was Book It tied to accelerated reader?I would always lose my button though, and I missed out on a lot of pizzas that way.
3/7/2007 11:52:47 AM
3/7/2007 12:27:41 PM
Book It was awesome. I used to always make sure I had my books read so I could get my little four piece personal pan. Doing away with it is counter productive because the fat little kids today are still going to eat unhealthy junk either way. Atleast this way they have to do something productive first.
3/7/2007 5:35:39 PM
I participated in Book It, but I wouldn't cry if they got rid of itparents today are too reliant on fast food to feed their kidsthere is a youth obesity epidemic. just cause we're not fat and we did it some 20 odd years ago doesn't mean that kids today who do it wont get fat (cause they most likely will)
