anyone one hear about this? supposedly it's an active RFID chip that lasts 4 years and can be scanned from up to ~300 feet away. cops can use it for ppl who try to run or just get their info quickly for when they pull them over (im guessing)i get my new license on tuesday. and my buddy at work said they are doing it now. true or am i being bs'd?http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RFID[Edited on March 2, 2007 at 2:05 PM. that sounds like a hell of a good idea for the cops and not like a good idea for anyone else.i'm not a lawer, but i would think that would violate your right to uneasonable search and seizure to be scanned like that for no reason.

first thing to do when you get this license is magnetize that fucker.

or find chip on id and smack it with a hammer

Speaking of whichwhat the fuck is this shiny metalic rfid looking sticker on the back of my license [Edited on March 2, 2007 at 2:59 PM. Reason : its probably just a hologram but now you got me all paranoid]

there is something now where stores can just scan your ID for age limit purchases.

what the fucktime to wrap my license in aluminum foil
3/2/2007 3:05:39 PM
that looks like the "cell booster" to me

they won't implement this for a while - it's too costly right now - if you order active tags in quantities in the 10,000 range they still cost $15-20 - even to cover all of NC the price wouldn't be down below $10 - not to mention the price of the receivers in cop cars - and then the fact that you could triangulate anyone's position by their ID which would cause tremendous privacy concernsif anything it'll be a passive tag in IDs or possibly a a semi-active tag - active tags are also too large b/c they get their power typically from a watch battery
3/2/2007 3:32:31 PM
^they'll just raise the cost to get/renew a license.
3/2/2007 3:34:12 PM
i hope they dont institute it. my buddy says his has it.. we shall see if he is bsing me. ugh yeah demagnatized mine would be. or kept in some hella thick aluminum foil.would aluminum foil work?
3/2/2007 3:41:57 PM
he is BSing you - the size of his ID would be larger than would fit in his wallet....if anything he has a passive tag which has a range of probably 5ft in his wallet - and if he's sitting on it then probably 2-3ft

Yeah I'm pretty sure most states aren't receptive to the Real ID at all, and nobody has required RFID tags in licenses yet. He's just BSing you, or BSing you with BS he heard from someone else.

BFH for the win!
3/2/2007 5:37:56 PM
your buddy is a fucking moronno way they could implement this without 7000 community action groups springing to life
