Tudor recently wrote an article saying that only the top eight teams in the regular season should be able to play in the ACC tournament http://www.newsobserver.com/769/story/547720.htmlJoe Ovies, http://www.850thebuzz.com/blog/?p=2484, disagreedI know that if only 8 could go that we'd be out, but in the future I really don't see us being in the bottom 4 that much.what do you guys think?
2/28/2007 6:02:35 PM
yes, because the ACC is the best damn conference... period.but in reality, hell no.
2/28/2007 6:18:35 PM
no. this idea is terrible.
2/28/2007 6:20:46 PM
4 games in 4 days is a lot at the end of the year. Maybe they should start on Wed and take a day off before the final.Keep all 12 teams though. Tutor's an idiot. Would he also say we shouldn't have 10-16 seeds in the NCAA tournament b/c they hardly ever make it to the championship game?
2/28/2007 6:30:08 PM
i agree not every team should be in
2/28/2007 6:37:20 PM
this wouldn't be an issue if we were still 9 teams
2/28/2007 6:47:49 PM
with the overall strength of the ACC through the years, I think every team deserves that last shot at a bid to the big dance. It keeps with the glory of the Cinderella team, even if its just for the ACC tourney.
2/28/2007 6:50:20 PM
I'm glad someone made this topic because I thought Tudor's article was crap. Sure it's tough for a team to win four games in a row but the fact that I believe it has happened (or at least a team has played four games in a row) shows that the format is just fine. Maybe spreading the games out so you don't have to play 1 game every day for four days would be fine. But each team in teh conference deserves a chance to win the tournament. I think its a teastament to the quality of the conference that teams can make it through even though they are in the bottom 1/4th of the standings.
2/28/2007 6:52:03 PM
The ACC is a business! You think they would not play four measley games on Thursday? That day alone would be millions of dollars lost.
2/28/2007 7:21:30 PM
2/28/2007 7:22:49 PM
Plus Syracuse managed to pull off four wins in a row in last year's Big East tourney, despite everyone saying it was impossible.
2/28/2007 7:24:51 PM
I like the day of rest idea, start the whole thing on a day earlier and take thursday off
2/28/2007 7:37:40 PM
i dont, there should be some sort of penalty for not finishing in the top 4 of the conference. penalty might not be the right word, but i dont think teams who finish in the bottom of the conference deserve any sort of break
2/28/2007 7:39:19 PM
WHAT IS THIS DAY OF REST SHITI KICK YOUR ASS ON A SATURDAYI KICK YOUR ASS ON A SUNDAY
2/28/2007 7:44:38 PM
^^agreed. if you don't finish in the top 4 then your road is tough...that's the way it should be.
2/28/2007 8:08:07 PM
even with a break those in the top 4 will only have to win 3 games for the title, the others will still have to win four, just not 4 in 4 days
2/28/2007 8:11:19 PM
the only conferences that dont allow all to show up at the conference have more than 12 teams dont they?also,
2/28/2007 9:29:55 PM
the big east is the only conference who doesn't allow everyone into the tournamenti think[Edited on February 28, 2007 at 9:35 PM. Reason : and the ivy league doesn't have one of course]
2/28/2007 9:34:05 PM
doesnt the big east have 16 teams?all the acc teams should go, the top 4 have a bye anyway
2/28/2007 9:49:11 PM
um....yea they shouldits the ACC tournament, not The Top Eight in the ACC Tournamentour asses wouldnt be goin if that were the case
2/28/2007 9:58:47 PM
i agree with tudor
2/28/2007 10:08:56 PM
Yes
2/28/2007 11:01:12 PM
absolutely every team should go...every team has a chance to win the tournament in this league... it'd just feel wrong to deny the potential tough-playing bottomdweller (especially since that's usually us)
2/28/2007 11:37:04 PM
2/28/2007 11:58:40 PM
How about we take out a half a dozen cupcakes off everybody's schedule and play each conference team twice
3/1/2007 12:04:45 AM
thats what they said on the radio today...
3/1/2007 12:07:09 AM
It's stupid not to give every team a chance. I do agree that maybe start the tourney a day earlier and give a day off before the final would be a good idea. But as long as it is 12 teams, having them all in works fine...other conferences with 12 seem to think so at least
3/1/2007 12:07:10 AM
^^yeah i heard packer and them talking about it today as well
3/1/2007 12:07:40 AM
Maybe I'm wrong, but wasn't Xavier the 10th seed in the A-10 tourney last year? I believe they were, and they won. I know it isn't the ACC, but it still gives an argument to the underdog.
3/1/2007 12:10:01 AM
then you don't get as many teams into the ncaa tournament though, because everyone else in all the other leagues around the country will still pad their records
3/1/2007 12:10:18 AM
I would hope that the ncaa is smart enough to really take sos into account, but I know that isn't going to happen. But as a fan I want to see us play everyone twice, maybe I was just born too late
3/1/2007 12:19:03 AM
No doubt all 12 teams should go...in fact I find it moronic that 4 teams get left out of the Big East tournament.
3/1/2007 6:35:24 AM
The Big East isn't the only conference that leaves out teams, but it's the only one of the BCS leagues that does.Atlantic Ten - 12 of 14Big Sky - 6 of 9Northeast - 8 of 11Ohio Valley - 8 of 11SWAC - 8 of 10Also, the Horizon League lets in all nine of its' teams but has a bizarre format where the top two seeds get byes to the semifinals, the 3rd seed gets a bye to the quarterfinals, and the other six teams would each need to win four games. The ACC did something like this once or twice when there were 9 teams, with the top seed getting a bye to the semifinals, the next four teams getting a bye to the quarters, and the bottom four starting on Thursday night with two play-in games.
3/1/2007 9:25:35 AM
No, If all 12 teams werent allowed in we wouldnt have lost to Wake last year in the tournament. But in reality, this is the dumbest idea ever. I'm already pissed off that we dont get a around robin schedule anymore, taking all 12 teams out of the tournament would be idiotic. This is supposed to be the best conference in america....Its not impossible that a team in the bottom 4 cant make a run.[Edited on March 1, 2007 at 9:43 AM. Reason : ]
3/1/2007 9:43:07 AM
having all the teams in the tourney puts more of an emphasis on the acc regular season (which is good). One win or loss could mean the difference between a first round bye and having to go 4 in a row to win it. Plus, seeing a 10 or 11 seed make a run to the semis or finals will always be fun.
3/1/2007 10:33:12 AM
3/1/2007 10:35:26 AM
^you make a good pt., but all 12 teams should deff. be in.
3/1/2007 11:02:09 AM
I'm not even reading this article. Of course every team should get in. What kind of nutjob idea is this?
3/1/2007 11:12:04 AM
3/1/2007 11:21:37 AM
a 12 team ACC tournament gives me a reason to take of Thursday and Friday as opposed to just Friday, since my company pretty much shuts down that weekend. Everyone that works here is either a State, Clemson, or GT graduate.
3/1/2007 12:04:30 PM
3/1/2007 12:06:27 PM
^ the penalty is that you have to win 4, not 3. I don't see how the day of rest thing is a problem (but it shouldn't happen on the weekend because of ratings so start the tourney a day early and take thursday off)[Edited on March 1, 2007 at 12:14 PM. Reason : s]
3/1/2007 12:13:48 PM
i agree, but thats not what he said.
3/1/2007 12:17:56 PM
Maybe we should go back to having just 9 teams in the conference, or just having one play-in game.
3/1/2007 12:29:35 PM
All teams should make the tournament. [Edited on March 1, 2007 at 12:40 PM. Reason : ...]
3/1/2007 12:38:46 PM
All should make it....cannot believe this is being argued. If not for making the ACC tourney....teams like us, Miami, Wake this year would have no chance at the NCAAs. I think every team should at least have that chance. Plus the ACC recognizes the tournament champs as the conference champs, so why would we leave teams out?
3/1/2007 12:46:00 PM
People would just argue that they had their chance during the course of the entire season.I still couldn't imagine not including all teams in the ACC tourney though.
3/1/2007 1:06:36 PM
bttt
3/8/2007 4:47:02 PM
yea, miami goes
3/8/2007 4:47:35 PM
Hey look, the 12th seed team just upset the 5th seed. There's just such a huge dropoff between those teams that Miami shouldn't even be in the tournament.
