Anyone ever had to go to one? I have to provide proof of liablity now and then and give a good excuse why my coverage lapsed? anyone ever gone? if so, is this a one on one thing or a public court room?

No. I just paid my fine. Even though my old policy had expired on Dec 31 and my new policy started on Jan 1 (this was last year) I just paid the $50 or whatever it was since I didn't feel like scheduling a hearing or anything. I even straight up asked the lady at the DMV place, "On what day did I not have insurance? I had insurance on the 31st, and on the 1st, so how is that a lapse?" She didn't like that too much
