Does anyone have any good recommendations for GUI based LaTeX apps for windows?

A full featured and easy to use app is a priority. Something that works both on linux and windows would be great. Obviously the LaTeX files themselves are transportable, but noone wants to learn two programs to do the same job.

For the LaTeX beginner who doesn't really care about the syntax, check out LyX. It's the closest thing to a WYSIWYG editor you can get that conforms to the LaTeX standards. The earlier versions used to require cygwin and an X-Window server, but I believe that someone compiled a version to run natively in Windows. You'll need a LaTeX compiler like MiKTeX to assemble the PS/DVI/PDF files for you.

If you're fairly comfortable with the LaTeX syntax, check out WinEdt. It is hands down the best text editor for LaTeX in Windows. It's shareware, but definitely worth the investment.

Look into Texnic Center as well. I've had a good experience with it.
