it freezes every so often, i looked online and saw it was common...ive had it over a year...anyone have this issue, what did you do? what number did you call?

^^ ps2 had tons of hardware problems. i also was lucky with my launch console though.that said, freezing now and then will lead to constant freezing. this will likely lead to red lights. i thought mine was just being fussy, but it slowly died. i now have a new/refurbished one from MS that works fine.

The freezing is mostly from one of the components overheating. With the 360's, people have generally seen these problems as deteriorating. It seems that each time it overheats, the component in question becomes more damaged until eventually the 360 completely fails. They don't tend to settle out at some "moderately flakey" level.
