Background: 1994 Explorer, 4WD, EB1 year ago, noticed inner pad on pass. side worn down to rivets, destroyed rotor without warning. Replaced rotors and pads.6 months ago, replaced calipers (because they needed it) and pads.3 days ago, inner pad on driver's side disappears itself. destroyed rotor. fuck.Thoughts: calipers are sticking, gunk in brake fluid?collapsed brake line?kerosene + match?forgot to mention, ABS light on, haven't read code yet. It's been since before the first rotor replacement.any other ideas?(yo homes to bel air)

you'd feel it if the calipers are sticking.how worn are the outer pads when the inners are gone? it's not abnormal for some vehicles to wear the inner pads faster from piston pressure.i've seen alignment problems cause odd pad wear.it's also possible whoever is installing the pads isn't doing it right.

All the other pads have plenty of life left. I don't recall how much they had when I bought them, so it's hard to compare, but they should have a while to go. The alignment is outta whack. Why would it just jump from one side to the other though?Installation, could be me, but installation is relatively straightforward on this truck.

My ford truck had shims(sp?) that were glued to the back of the pad. replacement pads don't have the shim, and failing to get new ones, or pry the old ones off and transfering them would lead to uneven pad wear, so i've been told....I don't really know tho.

Yea, all my new pads have come with shims. Shitty though they may be, they haven't left or not been put on. This is a perplexing predicament.

you don't have oversized wheels/tires with stock brakes do ya?

caliper slides rusted up

why would the caliper slides be rusted up if they are new? stock wheels/tires, btwi really don't know what to say about installation. pad installation on this truck is extremely straightforward

kerosene + match FTWI helped with the installation of pads and rotors on this truck. Im pretty sure everything was installed correctly. Could it possibly be the pads themself are shitty and the pad just fell apart and pad material feel out of the truck?. He said that he noticed it all of a sudden. And with all the other front pads basically looking new I just cant see why this one would wear down so fast to the rivets.
2/24/2007 9:23:41 AM
I would suspect either the pad fell apart or one of these six month old calipers was defective.

^could be if he noticed it all of a sudden. why do people always fail to mention important details? what kind of pad have you used?
