So I took introduction to psychology last semester, and did alright. In that class, you have the option to do the experiments, or you can do a research paper. So I chose the paper, turned it in when he said to, and left it at that. Well, the grade comes up as "IN" or incomplete. I've e-mailed the professor about 10 times; no response. I've contacted the psychology department, and they say they can't do anything. I can't get the guys phone number. It's been a few months, and I've tried everything I know to do, and it's still down as incomplete. I know that I completed what I was supposed to for the class, and I just want credit for it...anyone have tips?

who was the instructor?

A guy named John Cain. From what the person at the psych department told me, he isn't even teaching here this semester. I'm worried that he just tossed everything from the class and said fuck it.[Edited on February 21, 2007 at 12:40 PM. Reason : Or maybe it's Cane. I can't even remember at this point, I'd have to look once I get back home.]

with an elite username like that - you should hack in and change your grade...you should be able to get his name via webmail though...

It was between "d357r0y3r" and "LEETSNIPEZ1337." It was really a toss up, for me.In any case, what good is his name going to do? I've had access to his full name, but that doesn't give me a way to get the grade changed, unless you know something I don't.

I had this happen to me in PE, but I was in the class as credit only anyway and too lazy to fix it.

yeah, if registration and records doesnt hear anything from your professor by the end of the semester it gets changed to an F. Id go to the dept with the research paper and any other proof of what your grades were like in the class and demand to talk with someone. Good luck to you!

I sent another e-mail to the psych department with the research paper attached. Hopefully, I can get a response and see what they have to say.

dont call and email, go straight in to the department heads office and talk with them.if not you will receive an F in the classgo to the department heads class tomorrow with any papers or anything to help your case.

You talked to anybody else in the class? This problem may not be yours alone. Not frequently, but sometimes you'll get entire classes that have IN or LA grades show up.^Agreed. Phone calls / emails aren't sufficient in this situation. Go in person to the CHASS dean's office to get this straightened out.

i had this happen to me with ma 231. i missed the final exam, was sick, talked to the prof, and were trying to work something out. we ended up not being able to get the exam done before the summer break, so he told me he'd give me an IN until we got it taken care of.well in the fall, that prof was MIA, and i kept emailing him, and then the department head. basically, the emails were a waste of time. when i FINALLY got my ass over to Dr. Grigg's (the MA dept head) office, b/c he didn't have information from the old prof, he said I could take a final exam w/another MA 231 class that semester and if he couldn't get in touch with my old prof and get my other grades, the final would count for everything.so i would go, in person, with as many of the grades (old tests) and the paper you have to the PSY department and see what can be done.

Hunt/stalk that instructor, look and see if he or she is teaching this semester go to the classroom and/or find out the office hours.Next get mean with them, go in person down there and demand to see someone (Bring said paper with you). Also, go to your advisor's office, then the undergraduate cordinator of your dept or the one the instructor is in, then make an appointment with the department head with his or hers admin assistant. The least they can do is get in contact with that instructor for you (the instructor may ignore you but he or she won't ignore the aforementioned people). At all times keep stressing the fact it turns into an F at the end of this semester (even if it changes to one it can be changed later) and that you have done all the work etc (have copies of all of it with you).[Edited on February 22, 2007 at 3:10 AM. Reason : From my research your person was either a doctoral student or temp instructor ]
2/22/2007 2:57:59 AM
yeah you better go get that straightened out in person.apparently the instructor thinks you didnt turn something in.
2/22/2007 3:39:36 AM
and btw, if he's a temp/adjunct/parttime instructor, chance are he doesnt even look at the NCSU email. especially for the CHASS instructors. they got their one AOL email address, and thats all they need to know.so he prolly is not intentionally ignoring you

Thanks for the replies folks. I'm going in either today or tommorow, and I'll give an update with whatever I find out.
2/22/2007 11:45:49 AM
find the department head and raise hell
2/22/2007 7:00:44 PM
Well, I figured out that I need to talk to the TA, a guy named Tom Whalen. I probably should have figured that out on my own. Anyone know this guy, or know how to contact him? I did a quick search but didn't come up with anything, and I don't have the syllabus anymore.
2/22/2007 11:04:19 PM
^ Make the department put you in contact with him. At the very least, find out who his advisor is. If you have their advisor on your side, you basically own them.
