That one guy that's done a lot of ACC basketball said this one guy from Virginia was on a fast break and could hear David Thompson running behind him and knowing that he was going to try and block the shot hesitated and ended up getting DT's foot in the back of his head.

Wilt has no business in the top ten. They mentioned his shooting % and it's not impressive considering he rarely had a guy over 6'6" on him. Wilt's entire basketball career is a disappointment as far as winning goes. DT is a unanimous top three guy along with Alcindor. Walton and the Big O can duke it out for the other top 3 spot.

Redick would have probably been Top 20 like Laettner, not Top 10. The reason why most of the usual suspects are ranked in the Top 10 is b/c a lot of them changed or impacted the game. Lew Alcindor -> no dunking allowed rule. David Thompson -> invented the alley oop, had an impact on the NCAA's decision to let freshmen play and forced the NCAA to repeal the no dunking rule, showed that a team could be built around not just a great C or PG. Bill Russell -> forced the NCAA to widen the lane.

Redick had good numbers and nearly carried Duke to ACC Championships year after year. Remember Hodge's sophmore season and the ACC Final. It looked like we had the game in hand and Redick lighted us up as a freshman. He didn't change the game though. He didn't really get good at putting the ball on the floor until his final two years. Prior to that he was mainly just a spot up shooter.

Maravich and Alcindor are the only legit arguments for better college bball players than DT. DT was clearly the best in ACC history. Not sure how Walton could be ahead of DT when DT brought down Walton. Even Bill Walton has said as much.

he averaged 18 rebounds a game too...he also led the nba in assists one year, so its fair to assume he was dishing out several of those...and tallying ~4 or 5 blocks a game as well. what more do you want?

So I went and looked back at it today on DVR, and Mike Patrick was the guy talking about it. He said that Dan Bonner (yes the commentator for FSN) said that he got a fast break attempt and David Thompson ran back to try to block the shot. Dan heard him behind him and knew of Thompson's leaping ability and figured he had a good chance at blocking the shot, so he did a head fake which threw David off, and he leaped over him and ended up kicking him in the head. Next time Dan Bonner is doing one of our games, someone should yell to him, "Hey Bonner do you still have an imprint of David Thompson's foot in the back of your head."
