It's hilarious that so many of UNC-CH NCs were accidents/mistakes..

How you don't vote for the 74 team is beyond me. I mean they went undefeated in 73 and ended the era of the UCLA dynasty.

^you mean Houston not G'town. i do find it funny that G'town is known more for their two losses in the national championship game than their actual national championship.

^^ yeah but the question is which team was the best, I mean you can make an argument that all of the teams referenced took down some pretty good teams, but none of them dominated like the 74 team.

I'm guessing you think Whit's shot was a perfect ally oop pass???
Seriously, UNC was ahead in each instance where they won in 82 and 93, we're the ones that weren't

You do know UCLA won it in 75?? We ended the consecutive streak I guess

Our 74 team was good, Georgetown in 84, Kentucky's 96 team was pretty dominant, Duke in 92 (although their 99 team was the best)

1983 was more an accident than the 1982 victory over Gtown

^^ but is the poll about who dominated their opponents more during their actual time period or is it which team is a flat out better team?

I just looked at the link, and I think most people would say the 74 team we had. The 93 team UNC had was more about team chemistry over big time talent with 4 starters being juniors and seniors, look at the players off that team who sustained pro careers, one, Lynch, although Mongoose did play for 3 or 4 seasons if I recall.

Duke's 92 team has to be a close second to our 74 team. Although they certainly needed some clutch baskets, that was a talented team. Duke's 91 team was actually the big underdog to Tark's crew. Duke's 01 team was solid, but also trailed by 20+ in the semifinal four game, that will never happen again. It really shows you that to win the title, there are always a few huge things a team must overcome in order to win.

I thought UNC was losing when Webber called the timeout?

I thought they won on Montross' free throws....or am I high? (Edit: Okay, I remember Montross shooting free throws.... but if it was a technical, why would Montross be shooting the free throws? I think I am high)

And yes, they were at least winning in 82...

So ridiculous that it came down to a shot with 17 seconds left?

This is because you are an NC State fan. Chapel Hill was up by two, Webber clearly traveled too at the beginning of the possession, Billy Packer nearly had a coronary and Dean jumped off of both feet. Donald Williams sank two free throws to push it to a 4 pt lead. So unless Michigan was going to magically be awarded a 3 point basket prior to the tech. UNC was still in good shape. And in 82, they were leading as well. Gifts,(?) certainly, deciding factor in the game(?), not quite. Can you imagine if Rose or King had stuck a three to win, UNC would be livid to this day over the no call on the travel by Webber. In our 83 game, we were tied, the hail mary won it for us eliminating OT.

Some guy named Ewing and David Wingate (who played at least 7 seasons in the NBA) were on GTown. Georgetown went to 3 championship games in 4 years with Ewing, I'd say they were pretty good and better than Chapel Hill. I think grant hill accomplished this as well (3/4).

Totally unrelated, but only Dean Smiff could ever find a way to not win by 40 with that lineup

Just sayin...

John Thompson has the better 4 year period I'd say, and UNC still had guys like Buzz Peterson and Doh playin, I think G town was better
