So I have been going out with this new girl for little over a month.

I don't want to come across as too strong or too weak this valentine's day. We are going to NCSU vs MD game so my night is thin with options.

Anyway, im thinking 1 single rose, a card with some niceness on it (with Sincerely at the end of it, and not "love") and maybe like a teddy bear/box of chocolates (old school and cliche, but works).

I'm also thinking about squeezing dinner in, but that'll be kinda hard with the game in the middle of the night. I need some ideas to top it off and make it a good night.

maybe instead of sincerely yours, try "hugs and kisses" or something like that...so it doesn't look like you're working around the word "love"

but yeah, good idea - seems just right for 1 month

see, i would just go with the

"-name"

rather then a "sincerly" or "yours truly". putting one of those just screams "NOT LOVE, name"

and yeah, i know, it is too early to say "Love" and girls would agree with this, except for that girls are crazy

how about an afternoon lunch date instead of trying to squeeze in dinner late?

I actually wouldn't do a card. I always felt awkward getting a card from someone I didn't know that well.

I was going to say just show up with a rose and maybe squeeze dinner in and that'd be terrific. Don't even bother with a card, but if you must, just sign it -name, yours truly and sincerely would insult me. It sounds like you're making a business arrangement.

I'm in the same boat. been with my girl since the end of December.

I got her a teddy bear with a box of chocolates, a card that says the word love NOWHERE in it.

I'll also be cooking her dinner at her place and bringing her flowers. that should take care of it.

i don't believe in roses, but i do believe in flowers. i've been seeing a girl for a couple of weeks now, so i'm probably just going to get her a bunch of flowers. and coffee.

a "-" on both sides works (-Novicane-)...just don't mispell your name like you do your username... or if you'd like a word, "affectionately"....just a thought

or put XOXO

Heh, I've been with my guy 6months and the card I got him doesnt say love anywhere... it something about how he's got "it" and knows how to work "it" and stuff like that

It was a mahogany card, too, so I laugh.

I'm in the same boat, and I haven't completely decided what I'm doing. I made her a bitchin' mix CD, but I'm giving her that tonight. She has a meeting or something on Wednesday, so I don't know if I'll see her then. I kind of want to send her flowers at work, but I don't know if that'd be weird or not.

A++. sunflowers are awesome, but i haven't seen any lately. the flower place next to zaxby's on hillsborough has freakin snapdragons, which are equally awesome. and coffee is delicious.

No Rose...that is annoying.

http://www.bettybeauty.com (just kidding)...

But seriously, if its a new thing...make sure you know her thoughts on Valentines Day. I don't really do that "holiday"...so a guy getting me something would pretty much not impress me and kind of annoy me.

Maybe I'm just old, but teddy bears are kind of creepy coming from a boyfriend. (Unless she has a collection; then you have other issues.) A nice bottle of bubbly, some flowers & chocolate-covered strawberries should do the trick.

And flowers at the office are the bomb, unless you think she's about to dump you or something.

i dunno who ^this guy thinks he is, but flowers at work is not a 'bomb.' I've always wanted to get flowers... but i agree with not getting roses... they're just a little too over the top. Sunflowers and lillies are awesome, but I doubt either of those are in season atm. Also, a potted plant (like a simple gerber daisy) could be something she could keep at work and remember you by-- probably too early for this one, though.

Like everything on tww, take it with a grain of salt. It's more important that you put the thought in it than getting a bunch of the token valentines items (roses, chocolate, bears, nice dinner).

Back in the dorms when we were broke, moparnum5 made me a silly card with crayons and gave me a starfruit. That meant so much more than a store bought card & a box of chocolates .

Don't give that poor girl a box of chocolates and a teddy bear, unless you have seen teddy bears in her room or she has mentioned how much she adores those worthless things.

Find out what her favorite candy is, buy a bunch, put it in a pretty vase (if it's small like jolly ranchers or little Reese's) or other nice container. She'll like that better than some cheap box of chocolates of which only half are edible.

If you know her favorite color, why not get her a bouquet of flowers all in that color? A red rose is like the equivalent of a gift card in my mind.

How about, instead of giving her a bunch of cheap cliches, try to get something thoughtful? If you get her something that shows you bought it with her in mind, she will appreciate it so much more.

When my gf and I first started dating (it was November), she got me a nice card with a short but personal note in it for Valentine's. I still have it.
