Anyone know of a 4 wheel drive truck that came with Dana 60's, 4 wheel disc brakes and had an NV5600 6 speed transmission?if so, what year(s), make(s), model(s)?

closest i can think of is an ~02 dodge with a cummins, 60 front, 80 rear with discs, and a 6speed, im not sure about it being a 5600, but for some reason that sounds right

yep. a dodge is going to be it. it's going to have an 80 rear as mentioned, and a half ass 60 front.they started being offered with the new motor in 99, but were really rare until 01. i think 05 was the last year for it, maybe 04. it's been replaced with a benz/gretrag unit.[Edited on February 9, 2007 at 3:56 PM. is that a dually or just a 3/4 ton?
2/9/2007 3:55:28 PM
both. also, 03+ trucks will be AAM axles, not dana.
2/9/2007 3:58:45 PM
does GM make a version of this truck?12 or 14 bolt axles with disc brakes? NP205 transfer case, 6 speed transmission?
2/16/2007 1:11:48 PM
closest you'll get is a pre 88 truck with dana 60 front and 14 bolt rear. it'll be drum brake rear. easy to convert to disc though. no 6 speed ever offered. they did have a 205 case though.what exactly are you going for here? might be able to offer some better solutions to your problem...

im just gathering info right nowi want 3/4 or 1 ton running gear, just looking for what kind of donor may already have what im looking forseriously considering the 3.9 cummins swap and i dont want to be replacing driveline parts
2/16/2007 1:56:03 PM
well get to work and come tow my car ok
2/16/2007 6:48:58 PM
would an s6-650 be better than an nv5600?
2/27/2007 11:00:30 AM
ok... what is this going in??
2/27/2007 11:43:27 AM
a project
2/27/2007 1:20:50 PM
if youre wanting to keep it a secret that is ok, but knowing the intended use might make it a little easier for others to give you advice on the drivetrain choices
2/27/2007 1:29:17 PM
pretty sure its going in a 4 runnerbut if youre really "looking for a:" first you need to cd\a:
2/27/2007 1:31:25 PM
its not a secret, its not going in anything at the momenti was just wondering if you all know of any issues in a comparison between the 2just doin some research without spending any money at the momentand no, it won't be connected to a 22r
2/27/2007 3:08:16 PM
i 2nd the pre '88 ideajust do a disc swap for $150and then a novak conversions adapter for the 5600ya know...something like that
2/27/2007 3:27:53 PM
even the little diesel doesn't warrant an nv5600have you seen one in person?I'm just trying to get the "why" out of thisunless you are rolling over 40" tires or they're going underneath a full size.i think all the parts you mentioned are going to cause more problems than good things.you can build a 9" and a nv4500 setup and could possibly shave a couple hundred pounds and still be beefy as hell.
2/27/2007 3:32:01 PM
yeah, both of those transmissions are ridiculously beefy, even for a fuillsize truck. much less in a 4 runner, no matter what motor you go with. you aren't left with many t-case options either.not to mention drivetrain swaps of any kind can be a challenge, and cramming either one of those into a 4 runner would be real pita and require ALOT of hacking.you're not going to find "the" perfect donor truck. well built rigs come from a variety of sources. you get your axles from one vehicle, motor from another, trans from another, t-case, etc. etc...

thats pretty much the conclusion im coming tojust wondering and finding out a few thingsthanks for all of your help
2/27/2007 4:02:14 PM
a deuce and a half comes with everything you need to start a build
2/28/2007 8:32:13 AM
i thought surely i was going to get scolded for my post but i'm glad i could help out ^ along with doubling the weight of your car.. (not to mention un-sprung weight EEEK!)[Edited on February 28, 2007 at 4:53 PM. Reason : .]

you're somewhat closer but then you're running a pinion brake....]

i guess i missed it... but still the hubs on those alone weigh more than the entire brake/hub assembly on a dana 60[Edited on February 28, 2007 at 11:06 PM. Reason : ...]
2/28/2007 11:06:07 PM
yeah, i know for damn sure rockwells arent for everyone, and it doesnt sound like they would fit this guy's bill either, but ive always kinda liked the idea of them for cost to strength ratio, and i was surprised one time when i actually saw the weight numbers, but i searched and couldnt find any actual info to put in this thread
2/28/2007 11:11:05 PM
if rockwells didnt only come in 6.72's
3/1/2007 9:45:50 AM
i agree... but my dream axle is the unimog axle. converted to not require a torque tube.portals ftw
3/1/2007 10:55:48 AM
620lbs front for stripped down rockwells580lbs rearhttp://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billavista/60_front/dana 60 info.
3/1/2007 6:30:12 PM
unimog 406 series axles are far heavier (320kg/700lbs front, 280kg/620lbs rear, stripped) i think id rather have conventional type axles for my applicationunimogs seem to have good ground clearance but seem way too complicated and expensive
3/1/2007 7:01:47 PM
i know the newer fords come with some of that shit
3/2/2007 6:30:49 PM
6.72's aint so bad if ur actually running a tire that justifies rockwells
3/2/2007 7:11:44 PM
who gives a shit, hes never gonna do any of it
