Go to your county website and find out. I know you can pay Wake County taxes through wakegov.com.But, you don't have to drive two hours in order to drop a check in the mail. It shouldn't be a problem regardless as long as you still have a mailing address there that they can send the bill to.[Edited on February 8, 2007 at 3:07 PM. Reason : s]

they send the bill to your mailing address on file. you can pay it by check or if they have a website listed on the bill.registration you can just go down to the dmv and pay. unless you tell them to update it to wake county, they should leave it in the county of your home. If they give you grief about it, tell them you are a student and it's registered to your parents house.

you need to call 910 798 7300, thats the new hanover tax office and you need to get a buncha account #s and crap to do it over the phone.i just did mine 2 days ago. was fairly easy.i too had a car registered in new hanover, and switched to wake, but i couldnt get a registration card until i paid for the new hanover tax.

is it normal to have to pay tax when you reregister your car? what i mean is if i just paid tax in one county is it normal that as soon as i move my registration i have to pay tax in the new county even though i just paid a month ago in the old county?

I don't know what it does if you move, but if you sell your vehicle you should be able to request a vehicle tax refund of the prorated remainder. For example, the car we just recently sold was registered for August, so our tax bill covered August '06-August '07. We paid taxes near $250 in early December '06. Then the car sold a couple of weeks later. Now they are sending a tax refund of about $120. You just need to send them a bill of sale and reciept of turning your tag in.You could just keep it registered in your old county until it's about to expire then transfer it.

i mean the car is almost worthless, so its not much money. im just curious if its normal or if someone missed something

^^what counts as a bill of sale? When I sold my car, I just signed the title over.

i'm pretty sure they have lower tax rates there too. i shoudl probly lookt into that since that's the only advantage if any , since my jeep doesn't need to pass emissions anymore anyway
