Rivals has a SEC bias. They even admit it b/c the most premium subscriptions come from that conference. There really isn't a good service out there. From what I can tell ESPN Insider has the best and least biased.

that one ESPN list someone posted was retarded, had Tennessee at something stupid like 24th, havent even looked at their shit again after that. I could see them being ranked somewhere in the top 5 or maybe even top 10, but 24 is retarded with what they have coming in.

^^ Yeah, I like Lemming too

^ I'll try and get a link.. it's a ratings index. I didn't pay attention to the class rankings but rather the individual index numbers..

I'm not saying that Rivals is wrong in this case, just that the stupid * ratings change pending on what schools offer (and even sometimes when a player decides on a school) and not based on the players talent.

Pretty good that we fired our coach and still made top 50....

Good sign for O'Brien that he didn't lose some talent Chuck had already gotten to sign.

^^yea, I remember the talent Butch Davis had when he was at Miami. It's like a NFL team there. I read somewhere that one year, he had Clinton Portis, Willis McGahee, and Frank Gore as his RBs.

If it translates to on field performance UNC is going to be really, really good for awhile here. I'm not totally convinced Davis moves on quickly from there either. Really, having UNC good only helps State. I'd love to build a real football rivalry where both teams are pretty good. It's like the stadium arms race. UNC upgraded and we were all but forced to do the same...

I've always thought he was going to stay at UNC for a while, its not like he didnt get offers from bigger programs, so he must really want to be there. And a lot of people thought that he could just recruit like crazy because it was Miami, but after just a few months he is already bringing in really impressive results at CH

and USC has passed UT for second place

recruiting rankings are overrated after you get out of the top 7-8 teams who just stockpile 5-4 star guys. the rating services really have no ability to rate the thousands of football players across the country accurately. its not like basketball where everyone can see the top players play high school, camps, aau, etc...

nc state wouldnt recruit like that if you had jesus himself recruiting for us. we've had some very highly rated classes in the past, and where did it get us? solid coaching in college can easily make up talent differences....just look at wake forest.

for all of those nutting themselves over unc's class, remember this....yes your class looks very good right now...just like the past 4-5 you've pulled in. will they qualify? will they stay out of trouble? can they stay qualified? they havent yet. maybe butch's guys are different. we will see.

worry about the w's and l's. not the recruiting.

well true for the most part, but I would rather get a lot of great talent AND have good coaching (USC, Florida) than just have good coaching. And I dont know if UNC has had a class like this the last few years.

And thank god Gerald Jones stuck with Tennessee...

I really don't get it. Do the facilities and fan supports really not attract recruits?? What about that O'brien is considered the best coaching change of the off season. Why doesn't this attract guys?

Speaking as a relative "outsider" to North Carolina, I would say that most people view UNC as a "sexier" school and Davis is definitely a sexier coach than OBrien, especially when most of these guys were just getting into football when Davis was getting everyone at Miami and with Carolina's exposure due to bball. Not saying that I agree with that, just saying thats the viewpoint to people from outside of NC.

and unless I am forgetting someone, O'Brien hasnt really produced many skill position players for the NFL, mainly a bunch of grunts (O-Line). Once again, not saying that is bad or wrong, just saying that to the average QB/RB/WR/CB Davis probably looks better than O'Brien

Butch certainly cleaned up today, congrats for that. However, isn't one of the two all but headed to prep school in Jones or Austin? Also, To Jaybee, who states he isn't familiar with UNC athletes. Well, their school loves to proclaim excellence on the field/court, but more obnoxiously, in the classroom, the so called "carolina way" which for people with humility, translates to a student athlete as well as scholar, which is a load of crap, and this year's haul for butch proves it. Clemson laid off of a few guys who inked with UNC because they were scared of grades, so if clemson is scared, shouldn't almighty UNC be scared? ChiefButch says no. It's no secret that not 100% of athletes come to school for the education over the sport, but you will have a hard time convincing a UNC alum that their academics for athletes are just like everyone else's, a joke.

I can assure you, that any state fan with any knowledge, would love to get several future NFL O lineman in Raleigh ASAP (some LB's wouldn't hurt either). I'll take TOB's evaluation of an OL over any recruting website or college coach in the country.

im not trying to be a hater but here is what ive been hearing...

yes, unc has put together a very nice class on paper, with some studs in it that the rest of this post will not concern...searcy, paulus, austin and craddock especially...

but there are A LOT of the remaining guys in their class that while highly rated, have huge question marks...

jones..will he ever qualify? JUCO?

powell...will he ever qualify? prep?

little...he thinks he is a WR, but he isnt..hands like stone...his rating is high bc he is an athlete...we wanted him at LB...he doesnt want to play any other position...can they get him to change?

houston...he thinks he is a RB, but he isnt...runs like derek morris..his rating is high bc he is an athlete..we wanted him to play DT...he wants to play RB...can they get him to change?

etc....there are few more, but you get the point...Bunting liked to play the game of telling guys whatever they needed to hear to get them in school. Butch came in too late to recruit a lot of other guys instead..will these guys be happy playing D? (bc thats where butch will move them) it didnt sound like it in their interviews.

those guys will have a huge effect on their class down the road..if they all get in and see the big picture, they could be pretty good.

^^ I never said otherwise, just stating what I think many of the recruits felt... I agree, O-line is the key to a dominating team

and I figured out why ESPN's rankings are so weird... they dont count any Juco or Prep players.

does anyone really care? how many blue chippers did Boise State have? i guess all UNC has to do now is roll their helmets on the field and they'll go undefeated...that blows. too bad a team's record is in direct correlation to their recriting class rank

on the clemson board they are talking about how clemson removing their offer to dwight jones, may have not been entirely about grades, but rather about the welcome party that was planned by fans for jones when he took his official. the removal could possibly be just as much about avoiding violations as it is about grades.

akase,
Does the recruit actually signing an LOI, in this case Jones, with said school have any bearing as to possible reprecussions with the NCAA. In the NCAA's eyes, you commit a violation, you go down (on paper, of course we all know big schools get off), a la duke for buying DT a suit in the early 70s and having him sign with us. Maybe Clemson figures teh NCAA will put this investigation on the backburner since the kid ended up in Smurfland.

Goalie,
No one is saying a team full fo two star recruits can't do well, in this case boise st. But seriously, give me any one of these team's recruits: texas, florida, USC, and yes OU, and you take Boise's and we will play each other for ten years straight (on a neutral field if need be, and we will see who wins the majority). Dont try and convince anyone the exception is the rule because I can list 50 other schools to your one or two that have all two stars who see one bowl game every 5 seasons

not going by ESPN, their rankings are a joke. They dont include Juco or Prep school players, and they have some weird player rankings that are way off from what every other source has, like Jimmy Clausen at #9

^USC got the top 3 only according to ESPN, no one else has them the top 3
