Just play online with 'dominate' game. You can create your own maps too.

I've played Axis and Allies. We tried to play a game in the suite last year, took about 2 days to finish, or at least 12 hours. Ridiculous. I won though .

I liked that game a lot back in the day, but it's too predictable now. I have Risk 2210 AD, with nuclear blasts and stuff. It's also got space and you can fight on the moon.

^if played well that game takes FOREVER.... and the way its set up you can lose the earth but still come back from the moon. doesnt seem possible but it is amazing some of the crazy things my friends can pull, when there in a corner....

they said on Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me (NPR) last weekend that W. was a huge risk player at Yale.
..... not too surprising, really.

When we were kids my brother and I never got past two or three hours. One of us would get bored / tired of losing, declare nuclear war and throw the dice across the board.

this is why online strategy games are more fun. You can build up turns while you're offline and you don't have to sit there and think the whole time...

I play a real game of strategy: STRATEGO!

My strategy is to start off in South America... because you can only be attacked from two fronts. Or you can go to Australia, because there is only one front to be attacked from there. The reason I don't go for Australia first is because you get very little army support from there and you have to contend for Asia once you're out of Australia. Asia is probably the hardest to defend. But, you also get a lot more armies if you do manage to control it. And then, it depends on who you can ally with. If you're not good at making allies, then you probably won't be successful at Risk. One time we tried playing Risk 2210 and it wasn't quite as fun as regular risk. Flying to the moon and all was kind of a stupid concept. It made the map too large and confusing. One version of Risk I do recommend is Lord of the Rings Risk. Pretty fun to try and control Mordor and the Shire. Those are about it for versions of Risk that I've played. On a side note, I loved playing as the black characters. It was fun to pretend I was the evil dark side. Then I could go around and back stab my allies and it would start and all out war. We even got physical at times and threw dice at each other because of it. Oh, and the best part to Risk is when you get a "Rambo" character. That means there is like one army left on the territory that some how manages to hold off an army of 20. You just keep rolling that dice and Rambo just keeps kicking butt. Ok, that's my spill on Risk. Yep, back in the old college days when you had little responsibility and didn't have to worry about getting up at 6/7am to get ready for work the next day because you were up all night playing Risk. I think the longest Risk game I've played lasted 10 hours straight.

If you can predict dice rolls then I'm guessing you are excellent at craps

I must have the worst luck of anyone alive. I've lost several risk battles where I came in with 15+ and lost to armies of 3.

I think the first time I tried I thought I'd just take Asia first. This was a bad idea, and I want to try playin with a new, amended plan.

"xvang, the enter key is your friend!"

I know what the ENTER key is. It's the key to the farthest right underneat the \ key and above the farthest right Shift key. That reminds me of Risk for the computer. I played the demo version a few times, but then I got kind of bored of it because it lacked the "trash talk" factor. I mean, I could talk trash to the computer, but it's not like the computer was going to talk back or get offended. It's pointless to trash talk if the other party isn't offended. That's probably the best part about playing Risk with a bunch of friends. Like I said earlier, we were throwing dice, curse words, and anything we could get our hands on. The most boring part though is when you eliminate everyone and there is only like 2 or 3 people left on the board. That's when it turns into an "everyone for himself" game. And that's also the longest part to the game. Usually when we get to the last two players, we just call a truce and end the game. But yeah, I know where the Enter key is.

You fool! You fell victim to one of the classic blunders! The most famous is never get involved in a land war in Asia, but only slightly less well-known is this: never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line!

for instance their is capital risk where you pick one country as you capital, if its get taken, you're out. However if you take a capital, you get that persons cards and countries

I play there some, but I havnt compared the rulebook to the risk official rules, it seems close if not exact
the games dont seem to take as long as a proper risk game, probably because the maps are smaller
