Landmark Legal Foundation Nominates Rush Limbaugh for 2007 Nobel Peace Prize

Limbaugh called 'the foremost advocate for freedom and democracy in the
world today'

LEESBURG, Va., Feb. 1 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Landmark Legal
Foundation today nominated nationally syndicated radio talk show host Rush
Limbaugh for the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize.
Limbaugh, whose daily radio show is heard by more than 20 million
people on more than 600 radio stations in the United States and around the
world, was nominated for the prestigious award for his "nearly two decades
of tireless efforts to promote liberty, equality and opportunity for all
humankind, regardless of race, creed, economic stratum or national origin.
These are the only real cornerstones of just and lasting peace throughout
the world," said Landmark President Mark R. Levin.
"Rush Limbaugh is the foremost advocate for freedom and democracy in
the world today," explained Levin. "Everyday he gives voice to the values
of democratic governance, individual opportunity and the just, equal
application of the rule of law -- and it is fitting that the Nobel
Committee recognize the power of these ideals to build a truly peaceful
world for future generations."
The Nobel Peace Prize, which is given by a committee of the Norwegian
Storting (the Norwegian Parliament), was created by inventor Alfred Nobel
in his will in 1896 to be given to the individual or organization who
"shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations,
for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding of
peace congresses." The first Nobel Peace Prize was awarded in 1901 to Henry
Dunant and Frederic Passy.
Should Limbaugh become the 2007 Nobel Laureate for Peace, he will
receive the Nobel Peace Prize medal and a cash award of $10 million
Norwegian Kroner (approximately $1.6 million). The prize would be presented
at a ceremony in the Oslo City Hall presided over by King Harald V and
Queen Sonja of Norway on December 10, 2007, the anniversary of Alfred
Nobel's death. As the 2007 Nobel Laureate for Peace, Limbaugh would deliver
the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize Lecture at that ceremony.
Founded in 1976, Landmark Legal Foundation is the leading conservative
public interest law firm in the United States. Rush Limbaugh serves as an
unpaid member of Landmark's Board of Advisors.

Professor Ole Danbolt Mjos
Chairman,

Henrik Ibsens Gate 51
NO-0255
Oslo, Norway

Dear Dr. Mjos:
Landmark Legal Foundation herewith submits the name of Rush Limbaugh as
an unsolicited nomination for the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize.
We are offering this nomination for Mr. Limbaugh's nearly two decades
of tireless efforts to promote liberty, equality and opportunity for all
mankind, regardless of race, creed, economic stratum or national origin. We
fervently believe that these are the only real cornerstones of just and
lasting peace throughout the world.
Rush Limbaugh is a nationally syndicated radio talk show host in the
United States and one of the most popular broadcasters in the world. His
daily radio show is heard on more than 600 radio stations in the United
States and around the world. For 18 years he has used his show to become
the foremost advocate for freedom and democracy in the world today.
Everyday he gives voice to the values of democratic governance, individual
opportunity and the just, equal application of the rule of law -- and it is
fitting the Nobel Committee recognize the power of these ideals to build a
truly peaceful world for future generations.
Thank you for your thoughtful and serious consideration of this
nomination. Should you require additional information, please don't
hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,

Mark R. Levin
President

I listen to him I don't agree with everything he says but he's a lot better than most people think. He makes some good points.

Of course he has no shot at winning but if Arafat can win one I guess anyone can

I used to listen to him, but I really can't anymore. He's like an auditory compilation of the worst of TSB wrapped into one three hour show. Its not that I disagree with everything he says, just how he presents it that pisses me off, which may make it worse than having to listen to someone I disagree with.

NPR can be the same way. Some of their stuff is good, and its probably the most in depth news you can get on the radio, but they're just so g-ddamned elitist sometimes that I want to reach through the radio and punch them in their little starbucks sipping faces.

Does anyone else remember when Tom Joyner was on 680 (the white talk show guy, not the black morning show one)? He was actually pretty good.

$10 says he introduces himself as "Nobel Nominee El-Rushbo"

This is like that "Nobel Nominee" that diagnosed Terry Schiavo as being alert and kicking.

Um....not anyone can nominate someone for a nobel prize. The Nobel Committee doesn't accept prize nominations from just anyone and usually the Committee isn't public about who got nominated any given year.

Is this Mark R. Levin the same one that says "get off the phone you big dope" on the Hannity show? I hope so, cause its funny.

Rush will obviously not be officially nominated for the Nobel prize for appeasement, Mr Levin is illustrating the absurdity and political(anti-USA) nature of the prize. To bad though, I think I'd enjoy his acceptance speech.

Aren't you the one that believed that Hannity and Rush were great sources of news?

1) You mean like the time he claimed that Florida doesn't have to rely on hispanic, illegal labor for its crops? Or the time he became an expert on Parkinson's.

Of course, I'm sure those were all jokes, right?

2) Please explain why Arafat didn't deseve recognition for his role in the Oslo Accords, along w/ Rabin and Perez. Can people not change, reconcile, etc.? That's the nature of the prize, overcoming high odds for peaceful solutions without militant posturing.

maybe its because Rush Limbaugh never had anything to do with any peace accords or major international political resolutions, you fucking dolt.

If he freed Tibet or ended Nuclear Proliferation, then sure, give it to him. What has he done aside from be a pundit and influence one side of the political spectrum?

yes, the peace prize has become politicized. and in that sense it's not as meaningful as it should be.

but when some group of right wing wackjob advocates nominate a pathetic troll like Limbaugh, well then they're just making it into one huge joke.

And Arafat has done far more to both facilitate regional peace in the middle east (recently), and damage peace in the middle east (longer ago) than Rush Limbaugh could ever comprehend. Arafat is a major world leader who, peace prize or not, will go down in all the world history books as an important and influential man.

Rush Limbaugh will go briefly fizzle in american late-night cable tv history with some "best of" DVDs.... Perhaps. and maybe a "Popular entertainers: where are they now" special on A&E at some point. Hecklers dont make the history books.

Anyone can be nominated, but not anyone can nominate. There are a list of approved people and groups who can nominate, and it is different for every Prize. Basically there are Nobel groups and committees who nominate, and then the others who can nominate are pretty much broken into two groups: university presidents/organizations & associations within a country that deal with that discipline.

For example, in the Peace category those associations are any foreign policy institutes within a country. I guess that is where the Landmark Legal Foundation falls.

In reality though, it's not that hard at all to get nominated. Most of the people who win have been nominated a bunch of times. Jane Addams was nominated something like 90 times in 20 years before she finally won.

well shit, let's give the award to someone cooler that's pro-freedom, like Steve McQueen or Raffi.

if they were going to recognize the 1993 Oslo Accords, do you not think it right to recognize all parties involved in achieving it? It didn't just happen because of one side.

Maybe you should rephrase that to say "I dont think Rabin or Perez or Arafat deserved it", they all worked together, here.

well all three of them worked towards the peace agreement

its just pretty pathetic that the 30 some odd year leader of the PLO gets a peace prize

hey maybe usama will get one if he convinces al queda to stop blowing up US stuff!

hell people on the nomination comittee RESIGNED in protest of arafat getting it

You mean like how Al Gore has become a pundit and tried to influence one side of the political spectrum? And I don't recall Gore freeing the Tibetans or ending nuclear proliferation. In 1996, his campaign did take Buddhists' money, though. Fund-raiser Maria Hsia, who funneled over $100,000 through nuns and monks--that take vows of poverty--was tried and convicted on five counts of violating campaign-finance laws.

What, that Al Gore somehow managed to free impoverished Buddhist monks and nuns from $100,000 of their money?
