Anybody spend much time around the pinehurst/Aberdeen area? How is the area just outside of pinehurst and is there anything out there as far as having to live there.....Reasonable housing costs, stores, places to eat, and so on??

I grew up not far from there. There are a LOT of old people in the pinehurst area and it costs a lot to live there. However there are plenty of places to live within a 15 min drive to pinehurst that are very affordable. Will you be moving there for a job? are you working in the village? I would stay away from the aberdeen area, it's a little sketchy. The southern pines/ whispering pines areas are nice. Depending on where you are going to be working, the location of residence will vary. Some places are just easier to commute from. Stores, not so much, a strip mall wil Belk, JC penny, Goodys, peebles, pet smart, best buy, bed Bath Beyond. Wal mart of course. No real "mall". To eat - Lots of good local places along with the typical chains, Applebees, Ruby Tuesdays, Chick Fil A, Bonefish Grill, Panera Bread. If you ahve any other questions, ill be glad to help.

Parents live there- spend tons of time thereCheap as fuck unless you live in a golf club. Mostly townies so the rents pretty cheap in Southern Pines or Aberdeen. So. pines is pretty active, they have a walmart, best buy, etc. right there on 15-501 Commute is not an issue, you'll be 15 min from anywhere unless you live way out in the sticks. Where are you working?

Thanks,I am looking at working with Wachovia there as a Financial Specialist. Glad to hear they at least have the necessities such as Best Buy and some good places to eat. I can deal with driving 30-45 mins out if I really want to do some things so I can always make it to Fayetteville or Cary in that time if I have to. Might look at the Southern Pines area to live if I get the job.

I lived there for a year when I co-oped. Most people would find the area boring if they moved there alone. There isn't a lot there unless you like golf or horses. You have to look a little harder for entertainment.Everything as far as the shopping centers and restaurants is pretty much in a 2 mile max radius near the 15-510/US-1 split.Southern Pines is about an hour and fifteen minutes from Raleigh.[Edited on January 30, 2007 at 12:29 AM.
