Being an engineer and an Irishman, I came to appreciate the lyrics of GT's fight song over the weekend.Although not "Red and White", I'm sure you can enjoy parts of this:"I'm a Ramblin' Wreck from Georgia Tech and a hell of an engineer,A helluva, helluva, helluva, helluva, hell of an engineer,Like all the jolly good fellows, I drink my whiskey clear,I'm a Ramblin' Wreck from Georgia Tech and a hell of an engineer.Oh, if I had a daughter, sir, I'd dress her in White and Gold,And put her on the campus, to cheer the brave and bold. But if I had a son, sir, I'll tell you what he'd do.He would yell, "To Hell with Georgia," like his daddy used to do.Oh, I wish I had a barrel of rum and sugar three thousand pounds,A college bell to put it in and a clapper to stir it around.I'd drink to all good fellows who come from far and near.I'm a ramblin', gamblin', hell of an engineer."On another note, I think more people should learn the lyrics to our "real" fight song and sing along at games. It's a great song and would show some spirit instead of just yelling, GO STATE!

I'm willing to bet as many GT people know that song as NC State people know the words to the alma mater. Songs are driven by the lowest common denominator. I know the words to the "simple" fight song, but most people just say "GO TO HELL CAROLINA!" and "GO STATE!"Sat with some GT friends at the NC State/GT football game in their section. The only song of theirs I remember was: "FIGHT! WIN! DRINK! GET NAKED!"

i think we should all know our fight song too. its a pretty sweet song and would be a new tradition here at state. i know im gonna be singing it at all the basketball games from here on out!

that's an awesome fight song, thx for posting that - my grandpa was an engineer from GT and I know he had to sing that!

Surprisingly, I think most of the GT students do know the words to that song. At least, it seemed like it at NCSU-GT games I've been to, when they've brought a band.Every college student should be required to learn the words to their fight song and alma mater by the end of their freshman year!

Well I saw 10 or so members of the georgia tech football team run over to their fans (including tashard chioce) after our game this year and sing RWFGT all the way through with a huge majority of their fans still there.

Awesome song

I saw a game at GT a few years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it! Good crowd, good stadium, good song, nice ride.

It's always beat the pants off of our fight song.

i like the words to our fight song, personally (and know them), but i never sing them b/c there's no point if you're the only one.the words to the red and white aren't as good, and i don't sing those i like it better with just 'go to hell carolina' and 'go state'that is a good song though (gt's), i've never seen it written out before.

you should sing it maybe people will catch on. who cares if you are the only one doing it. if you know the words sing it.

It's not like it's that friggin' hard to learn the words to the Alma Mater...they're shown on the screen at the RBC Center after every basketball game.

Just to clear things up, because some people in here have posted about our alma matter and fight songs...they are two different songs. <----for the freshmen who didn't knowThey can be found here, along with some other stuff:http://www.ncsu.edu/orientation/traditions/athletics.htm

State;--GO STATE!And where-e'er we go,we'll let the whole world know,We're behind you, keep fighting for State.its no ramblin wreck but i think its pretty sweet.

Yeah the Alma Mater is really easy to learn and everyone should know that one too. Except for the fact that the stadium is usually half empty by the time the band plays the Alma Mater at the end.
1/29/2007 5:01:37 PM
maybe they shouldnt play it at the end of the game.

I love GT's fight song. Probably my favorite in college football. (or sports in general, i guess i should say)
1/29/2007 6:58:38 PM
They stole it from MIT.But to be fair it's actually a very popular song for many engineers. So MIT and many many other schools stole it as well. MIT just modified it quite a bit.Bottom line it's very unoriginal.http://www.grahamnasby.com/misc/engineering_ladygodivahymn.shtml[Edited on January 29, 2007 at 7:23 PM. Reason : .]

that song is awsome. i think nc state needs to implement drinking into all songs. of course the adminstration will probably get rid of them just like everything else that has alcohol in it.

Andy, you're starting to sound like BikeHelmetGuy.
1/29/2007 8:12:51 PM
is their anyway we could get the words to our fight song put on the jumbotron? i think we should really push singing the words.
