I'm writing something on interactive games and am trying to think of some examples of beyond-the-controller type games. I know a lot of arcade games that have been around for a while used guns/bikes/staring wheels in an attempt at another level of interaction. Duck hunt was one of the first games to bring this to consoles. Games like DDR, Guitar Hero, and now the wii are based on some of the same concepts. Also, opinions on if these games have been and always will be a novelty or if this is where most gaming could be heading. Is a controller or keyboard/mouse just too practical for console gaming for it ever to change?

i think the popularity of the wii so far shows that there is a demand for this type of device, but only time will tell if its just a novelty or not.even the ps3 has a controller that senses motion.i personally think its just a natural progression.

This isn't exactly implemented at this moment, but it could potentially point the way to a new type of interaction.http://abclocal.go.com/kgo/story?section=local&id=4944111

In the arcade, there are lots of shooters that have guns (Time Crisis 2 being the most interactive) because its got a foot petal too. Also there is a boxing game where you have boxing gloves and it records your motion. Also that paddling game (white water rafting) where you sit in the yellow seats and paddle like hell.Just a few

Years ago I saw an ad in a video game magazine for a device that let you play games with your mind. The "controller" looked like one of those laser pulse monitors that they put on your finger at the hospital. It game with its own special games but they claimed that it could be used on all NES games. There was some crazy shit you could buy for your NES. Most of it was bullshit.
