middle of the summer in the middle of the week would probably be the least expensive

try expedia - they had the best prices when i looked. you should be able to get 3 nights in a decent hotel on the strip with airfare for around $400-600

its cheaper to stay downtown than the strip, so i'd recommend that. the golden nugget is a really nice hotel. the only downside is you can't just walk to the strip, but its only $5 for a 24 hour pass to ride the bus

I went Christmas day a year ago and got a pretty good deal off of fatwallet. It's hard to find a cheap flight, but you could probably find an ok hotel for $99/night. Just make sure some huge convention isn't in town when you are going or else the prices will be jacked up.

if you're flying from NC, you're going to have a tough time getting good airfare. my buddy in winston drove down here to atlanta to fly out - the 4 hour drive saved him 300 bucks or so on the flight

hotels during the off season are pretty damn cheap by hotel standards, especially if you stay during the week...on the flip side we paid $1600 for 3 nights at the MGM over new years eve weekend.

i would never, ever stay downtown. too far away. you'll be happier paying an extra 30 bucks a night to stay somewhere like the MGM. I'd actually recommend Monte Carlo on a budget as they have tons of low min bid tables (even on new years eve they had some $10/hand blackjack at 8pm.

That's odd. When I went on xmas, my flight connected in atl and cost less than my gf's flight directly from atl to vegas.

my buddy and i are currently researchin prices for spring break. we've found roundtrip airfare and hotel for 300 for the week. try vegas.com theres a ton of different sites with about the same offers. delta has roundtrip from raleigh to vegas for about 230.

i went for 3 nights in the middle of august and stayed at the monte carlo. I think it was right around 450 per person for hotel and flight.

I can't imagine staying at downtown....the strip is way nicer. Make sure you look for resorts like Harrah's, Bally's, Monte Carlo, Luxor, and New York, New York. They're all mid to south strip and are worth the extra bit of money that you'd pay after upgrading from downtown.

MGM, Mirage, Bellagio, etc. are def going to be a little bit more expensive than anywhere else.

MGM isn't too bad. Not nearly as nice as Bellagio or Mandalay Bay.

vegas.com cheap as shit... a whole week for almost 300 less than what priceline and travelocity was giving me. air +hotel for a week=520/person.

how is the stratosphere???

the stratosphere is pretty good but its on the north end of the strip most of the other places are in the middle or south end. wild wild west casino is just off the strip (less than 1/2) and its near the other hotels, im pretty sure thats where we're gonna stay.

i went the week before xmas for 7 days....had a blast.
did a lot of research ended up staying at Aladdin and Treasure Island...would highly recommend it.
with Aladdin current promotions, came down to $40/night....did the $20 trick and got an upgrade to a room directly facing the strip and bellagio fountains

in a nutshell i would rank from worse to best:
downtown - don't stay there, ghetto, old, far from strip
upper north - circus circus, stratosphere - not as ghetto, but still far..circus is run down avoid it
south strip - mgm, luxor, mandalay, excalibur - not as bad but still far south, mandalay is the farthest but nice...mgm/luxor/excalibur is mediocre
center south - monte carlo, aladdin, NYNY, paris, bellagio - would recommend all except monte carlo, it's dead and right next to construction (aka noise 24/7)
center north - venetian, caesars palace, treasure island, wynn - a slight notch about center south

to avoid being a runon, pm me if you need more help

also, for best hotel rates go directly to the hotel website, not vegas.com
the packages aren't necessarily cheaper, some are more than buying separately that's what we did

NYNY is Directly across the street from MGM...Monte Carlo is a short block away...no way do you put NYNY and MC in the same region on the strip as aladdin, paris, etc...it's a decent walk from aladdin to MC...not bad, but certainly a lot further than MGM

paris is nice, but casino kind of sucked...aladdin was a good place to stay with a pretty good casino

mgm seems to always have a lot of young people there, good clubs, great resturants...but shitty pool location if you're looking for that

actually to correct my listing MGM should be considered center south since it is across from NYNY

i wasn't too impressed with MGM...lion exhibit was weak, seemed older, and studio 69 was closed.. it just didn't have the glitz as the other ones

Go to Las Vegas Advisor (http://www.lasvegasadvisor.com/whyjoin-options.cfm) and sign up to get their coupon book. It is full of some awesome deals especially for some of the smaller casinos. The coupon book has match plays (you put down $10 and the coupon and it counts as $20), its free money. No brainer. Not to mention free food and stuff (like the unlimited drinks for an hour coupon at Ellis Island).

Im personally a fan of downtown, but I just like to play poker and blackjack, I don't really care about the partying and shows and stuff. If you play table games, sign up for a players card and use it when you play and you'll get lots of free offers for rooms in the mail (of course this doesn't help you this trip, but it will next time). They want to rope in the new players. If you want to go on the cheap, you can always sleep at a cheaper place downtown and then go up to the strip to party.

some friends and I are going to Vegas June 19th for a friend's 21st bday... here is what i want to know:

1. when should we book flight/hotel. some say early, some say more last minute
2. is the weather going to be unbearable
3. of course i've heard of every hotel listed, but can someone PLEASE give specifics... what do i need to see/do at these hotels... bellagio, mgm, mandalay bay, caesars, mirage, alladin and which should a group of girls ages 21-25 stay at?
4. name places where we MUST eat, shop, see attractions!

I'd say book early. Even if you have to pay a tad more (which I'm not sure you will) it's worth it to avoid having lots of connections or arriving at 3 in the morning.

2. is the weather going to be unbearable
Never been in the summer.

Depends on your pricerange, although I would suggest you stay towards the middle of the strip so you don't have to do too much walking. I stayed at mgm and liked it. I've heard bellagio is very nice.

4. name places where we MUST eat, shop, see attractions!
I really enjoyed the Paris dinner buffet. Make sure you see the Bellagio fountains. I also highly recommend Cirque Du Soleil.

1. (see David0603) to add, i waited till the last minute thinking i could get a cheaper last minute deal......which i did only cuz i got lucky but ended up being red eye so yes BOOK EARLY.

3. pm me your email, i have a 4 page list i will send u of must do things/sights at each hotel

4. if u want buffet i recommend Aladdin Spice Market as the best...and Paris for breakfast buffet, shop there are tons, wynn and bellagio are super $$ mostly window shopping, venetian a little better, ceasars forums prob the best, aladdin shops more down to earth too but more dead. shows we saw cirque, mamammia, and fab four if u like beatles

if i go back i want to stay at bellagio or Mirage, almost mainly because of their location.

I went in the middle of August last year and the temp was around 110 every day, except no humidity. There was always a breeze blowing and at night you could wear jeans with no problem. June will probably be a little cheaper.

My favorite bar there was Times Square inside of NYNY and Carnaval Court at Harrah's.

Last minute may be cheaper to book. Prices started to go up on us about 4-5 weeks before the trip, so booking before then would be cheapest. I never did look at prices last minute.

i reccomend lastminutetravel.com usually go to vegas about once every two to three months and i haven't found any site that can match their deals. it even allows you to play around and choose different flights and hotels. it's not just for last minute traveling. you can book months in advance and still get great deals. usually i go by myself and drive up to raleigh to fly out because its always around 300 dollars cheaper than flying out of myrtle. during the week i can usually find air and hotel for around 300 bucks for 3 nights. over the weekend it usually runs me around 500 to 600 depending on whats going on that paticular weekend in vegas. that price includes air and room by myself. if you are going with others the price is greatly reduced per person if you are sharing a room. during the winter i tend to stay at the sahara. it's an older hotel located on the north end of the strip, but has been well maintained through the years and is a perfectly safe place to stay. the rooms are clean but kind of small but i don't spend much time in the room anyway other than to pass out. during the summer, the flamingo is the heat. its located right in the middle of everything on the strip and is run by hilton. absolutely beautiful landscape and pools with a more laid back atmosphere. for a wild pool party experience check out either hard rock or mandalay bay, though the accomodations will be a bit more pricey. all in all flamingo is the best bang for your buck in the summer time.

I just got back from Vegas (literally got home about 30 minutes ago)... I stayed at Caesars Palace and would highly recommend it - It's in the center of the action on the strip, imo... Clean, large casinos, lots of shopping in and around the hotel... Pure Nightclub on-site (partly owned by several celebrities, etc), Pussycat Dolls Lounge located right beside Pure... Too tired to think of anything else to add right now.

[Edited on February 22, 2007 at 1:58 AM. Reason : My room was $199/night... Not necessarily cheap but not bad if sharing room]

depending on how many of you are going, look into getting a suite instead of multiple rooms (or having someone stuck on the floor)

last time i was in vegas, we stayed in a suite at thehotel/mandalay bay -- was pretty swanky but affordable (i've also done the suite thing at the venetian as well), and it's fun to have everyone in the same place

it's gonna be pretty damn hot in june -- the pool will be your friend during the day when you're not passed out (the pool at mandalay is sweet!)

The cheapest hotel on the strip is the Excalibur. If you're going to stay on Freemont, I recommend the Golden Nugget.

Try spirit for airfare or AirTran if you don't fly on weekend days (search flex travel dates) you'll get a better rate.

I just flew out there (From Atlanta) for 89 each way, and 55 a night for hotel rooms. Don't say on a Friday or Saturday night and you're gold.
