Who in the hell are you talking to? This one's a no-brainer. Unfortuntately, the earliest I could get to it would be next weekend. This weekend is booked solid. You need to call Rex at Happy Jap's (467-2884) in Cary and see what he'll do it for. It's a pie job, if you're familiar with Yotas.

for 800 they could change the head gasket too. lol.

a while back we decided it was time to do the belt on the 3.4 in my moms 4runner(only 152k miles young, original belt), asked a couple spots that quoted us $8-900, so i ended up doing it for themis that really outrageous? or is that normal for the 3.4?i figured that was kinda the going rate? but i do all my own work so im not that familiar with normal prices for stuff[Edited on January 25, 2007 at 9:52 PM. contrary to your belief and constant posting of it, saabs are not God's gift to the automotive world.get some variety in your life.

You've gotta figure on a couple of things for the 5VZ-FE.First of all, the timing belt is damn expensive on that engine...like close to 65 dolla from a reputable supplier. The shop marks it up to make a little profit off of it (they had to waste their time getting it, you know...). The tensioner is another 75 to 100 dollars. The water pump is another 100 to 125. Spend another 50 dollars on seals. And then 4 hours (or more) labor @ 100 bux an hour. There you go. Typical price.

i love how blue collar folks aren't ever supposed to get anything for their knowledge and experience.how about you start getting $10k a year for your fulltime job. k?i'd charge you $2000 just for making this thread.[Edited on January 25, 2007 at 10:04 PM. Reason : .]

Thanks for yall's input, and patience. I'd offer to post tits or something as 'thank you'...but...For future reference: while my dad is mechanically inclined, he works third shift, and has pretty much started to refuse to do anything but work, cook, and do laundry. Grandfather? Travels too much to count on. Uncle has three cars, a boat, and his family. So while there are people to ask questions of...we're talking days for a simple answer. As for who? Peak's Automotive in Apex. Why? Because they came with good references from both family friends and mom's coworkers at a huge company. We just duked it out: she says a timing belt is 'just' preventive maintenance, and to not worry . I have no idea whether this thing has ever been changed. It's easy to tell that this car belonged to a girl or a wuss before me (fake WARNING: security system! stickers )I'm working on figuring this crap out on my own, but dangit...that price was, at best, appalling.^que?]

hell for that you could buy this pinto http://www.nc4x4.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18320 and still have enough left to tune it up, change the fluids, get some seatcovers, and spraybomb some flames on it.

Mmmm, Pinto bean. Too bad it's not a wagon.
1/25/2007 11:49:38 PM

Was about $530 for a '95 Honda Civic, but that included all of the other belts, a new water pump, and adjusting the valve clearances....
