Dad is getting a new truck, which will be handed down to me in a few years so i want to make sure he gets the best. We have narrowed to down to the new Tundra or the new Sierra. Both would be full loaded, 4dr, 4wd. Tell me what you think? The tundra hasnt come out yet, so i think its pretty much gonna come down to the test drive...Tundra New for '07-Huge, 10" Longer, 5" Taller, 4" Wider-381 HP-401 ft/lb torque-10,800lbs Towinghttp://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/trucks/112_0701_2007_toyota_tundra/specs.htmlSierra new for '07-367 HP-375 ft/lb torque http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/pickup/112_0701_2007_chevrolet_silverado/specs.html

I'm a huge toyota fan, but man that thing is ugly. I sat in one at the indianapolis auto show after christmas and was honestly not impressed inside or out. The interior isn't that nice whereas GM has really stepped it up in their new trucks. It is a toyota though, and it will be reliable and probably hold its value (but so do GM trucks). Leave it to the test drive

^ will never own another POS nissan

yeah that tundra looks horrible. I test dove a sierra yesterday and it was pretty nice. not $32K worth of nice tho. Also, I'd like to see toyota's dyno sheets on the tundra and tacoma. If you go to the dealership they don't have them. How do they get those power numbers, and not have dyno sheets to back up their numbers? Don't get me wrong, I love yotas, I'd just like to see some proof before I buy a new truck.

is it just me or did gm just say... "screw it we'll use the ford concept front end..."it looks somewhere between the current model and
1/23/2007 4:07:38 PM
yota. it's not any uglier than anything else they've been coming out with lately. i don't like the looks of either, but toyota is a better truck imo.
1/23/2007 4:31:08 PM
toyota looks like shit, that's been shit on.
1/23/2007 5:36:06 PM
I like the the look of the new tundra, atleast more than the new tacoma expect for that slit in the chrome trim above the grill. WTF is that all about.[Edited on January 23, 2007 at 8:31 PM. Reason : k]

The tundra has more torque I bet the curve on the GMC will be better. The chevrolet version won motor trends TOTY... gotta count for something.

I've never been a fan of buying a "new model first year" of anything. That being said the Yota's numbers alone are impressive, but I'd like to see how it is going to hold up and what the torque curve looks like. I've also never been a fan of toyota's truck interiors, or their cars for that matter. GM has stepped up their game in the truck market I love the interior of mine and the new one are pretty nice as well.bottom line is go with what rides better, handles better, is more comfortable, and which ever one has the power that you need/want. It boils down to personal choice.oh yeah and the taillights on the yota are ass ugly
1/23/2007 9:41:21 PM
i'm totally opposite of you which is funny since we are both GM HD owners however i do agree about the "buying the new model year". i would recommend the toyota. obviously, i haven't seen the interior of the new tundra but it can't be as crappy as GM. if i didn't want an HD truck, i would definitely not have gone the GM route and got a tundra. toyota is definitely a better built vehicle IMO.[Edited on January 24, 2007 at 8:34 AM. It's hard to goof with any modern half ton truck from Chevy/GMC, Toyota, or Ford. They're all excellent trucks.Just test drive them all and get the one you like best. Or the one they give you the best deal on.
1/24/2007 9:52:43 AM
why has dodge been left out of this discussion
1/24/2007 10:25:34 AM
^ simple, because i want some money if i ever decided to sell it
1/24/2007 10:55:26 AM
apparently he didn't want to discuss dodge hence the thread title.

jap power numbers dont mean shit, look at a dyno sheet of bothi'd rather have an average of 300 or so horses across the usable band with the 367 around 4k, in the gmc than a sharp peak of 381 at 7,000 rpm on the toyplus the gmc will be worth a lot more in the long run, they hold their value well and i have never gotten rid of a chevy truck under my own free will and my last two were close to 300k, my current one at 200k, and i have never had a major problem
1/25/2007 12:53:59 PM
only 5600 rpm for the toy....... The only major flaw of the gm twins is the 4 spd auto....the 6 spd in the toy is light years ahead of the gm
1/25/2007 12:56:34 PM
actually you can get a new GMC with a 6 speed auto, the 6l80E
1/25/2007 12:58:36 PM
^yeah, the 6sp will be out for the rest of the engines further along. They just don't have the plant capacity right now.
1/25/2007 1:04:19 PM
^^only in the denali....ive been hearing at least 1 year until the other models get it....all the 6 speeds are pretty much already used up in the escalades
1/25/2007 1:19:58 PM
i'm one of those people that considers foreign(honda, toyota, nissan) better than any of that american made crap by chevy or ford so i'd go with the toyota
