Parcells retires from coaching after 9-7 seasonESPN.com news servicesAfter a trying season in Dallas, Bill Parcells is retiring from coaching."I am retiring from coaching football," Parcells said in a statement. "I want to thank Jerry Jones and Stephen Jones for their tremendous support over the last four years. Also, the players, my coaching staff and others in the support group who have done so much to help. Dallas is a great city and the Cowboys are an integral part of it. I am hopeful that they are able to go forward from here."The Cowboys finished a tumultuous season with a 9-7 record and lost in the NFC wild-card playoffs when a late field goal attempt went awry against the Seattle Seahawks."I am in good health and feel lucky to have been able to coach in the NFL for an extended period of time," Parcells said. "I leave the game and the NFL with nothing but good feelings and gratitude to all the players, coaches and other people that have assisted me in that regard."[Edited on January 22, 2007 at 12:09 PM. Good. He was a great coach and I hope the cowboys suffer from his loss.
1/22/2007 12:10:07 PM
i'm gonna miss his press conferences
1/22/2007 12:11:22 PM
haha he was sick and tired of talking about "the player"how many post-cowboys interview questions are going to ask "how much did Terrell Owens' attitude influence your retirement?"
1/22/2007 12:13:31 PM
(Darth Vader voice) NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1/22/2007 12:14:22 PM
so I guess TO gets to stay and drop some more passes?
1/22/2007 12:21:25 PM
..... and somewhere out there TO eats another few sleeping pills and dries his eyes before his "post parcells interview" with michael irvin and stuart scott
1/22/2007 12:24:06 PM
now the speculation begins....who will take over as coach of one of the most popular and successful franchises with a player like TO and a huge fan base that wants to win in the playoffs. Talk about pressure. Only one man can do it:Bill Cowher!
1/22/2007 12:44:45 PM
The one man that probably couldn't want this job any less:Bill Cowher!
1/22/2007 1:08:17 PM
HAHAHAHA People believed that Cowher wanted to come here and coach and now it is crazy to think he would want to coach the Dallas Cowboys, perhaps the most successful NFL team ever??? Have a good retirement Bill and thanks for bringing the Cowboys back to contenders after the Dave Campo years.

It seems like there have been more big coaching changes this year in football than in years past. Anyone else feel this way or have stats to support/refute it.[Edited on January 22, 2007 at 1:37 PM. Reason : college and pro]

He was a great coach, but a total Ass as a person...but many great coaches are like that....
1/22/2007 1:46:01 PM
He's going to coach the Giants in 08, I'm telling you.
1/22/2007 1:46:42 PM
i'm hearing bob stoops is a leading candidate
1/22/2007 1:48:22 PM
sportscenter is hearing that as well lol
1/22/2007 1:55:04 PM
haven't heard sportscenter today
1/22/2007 2:02:26 PM
the media is going to "blame" t.o. somehow.
1/22/2007 2:26:23 PM
Parcells wasn't coming back if TO was still around. I think Jerry Jones wants to keep TO because he creates media attention and allows his Cowboys to constantly be in the middle of every fucking headline. Thus Parcells retired.

1/22/2007 2:34:46 PM
The new coach of the Dallas Cowboys: Mike Keenan.
1/22/2007 2:36:46 PM
Dont forget theres always the option of :Steve Lavin !

The team was AFWUL under Dave Campo....they went 5-11 three years in a row. What was Parcells record first year there? 10-6 with fucking Quincy Carter at QB.

HA HA...I HEARD NORV TURNER IS AVAILABLE.....GG COWGIRLS
1/22/2007 6:05:37 PM
why do you think t.o. influenced parcell's retirement? because espn villianizes t.o., and tells you that they couldn't coexist in dallas?parcells has NEVER said anything in regards to t.o. to suggest that he's had a problem with him. however, he has blasted the media countless times for trying to antagonize the relationship, and creating stories when there wasn't one.
1/22/2007 6:57:12 PM
bumpWonder if they'd go for Jim Mora, Jr.
1/23/2007 12:40:57 AM
