Setup a system where a thread originator can request a change to the thread title and it would require moderator approval to be done. No idea how TWW indexes itself, so this could be relatively easy or difficult thing to do.See: http://www.thewolfweb.com/message_topic.aspx?topic=456691 for reference. Great thread, piss-poor thread title.

i support this but i don't think it'd work in a positive way - the problem is that the people creating the threads think that their thread titles are good

I hate thread titles that give you no idea, what the thread is about. It'd be nice to be able to edit a thread title if you fuck up some spelling or grammar.

I was thinking about this the other day. CarZin said that he was gonna start locking non-specific thread titles. I completely support that. It's not unusual at all to see duplicate threads just because even a proper search didn't reveal the original thread. Sometimes I run across a thread without a good title that has already taken off, so I don't want to lock it. Good thread titles can really make T-Dub a lot easier and faster to use. I just posted that in the Mod Forum.[Edited on January 18, 2007 at 8:34 PM. Reason : mod post]

It's actually more important than I realized, never stop to think about it but I only click on threads that sound interesting by title or creator. And OMFG doesn't cut it.

This would be nice occasionally. I think it would lead to some problems though. Also, everyone here is or has been in college. If they haven't learned to properly describe a subject, their thread is going to die a lonely death. That being said, I can not comprehend some of the people selling things in classifieds and their thread titles. I guess some people are just downright stupid.

I was thinking more about the idle bullshit threads in Chit Chat, but the Classifieds would definately help me scan/search for items if they knew what they were doing.

the problem with this idea is that the thread will keep changing and someone who saw the original title will have no fucking clue what to look for
1/19/2007 11:00:07 AM
i agree that it wouldn't necessarily be helpful in threads that are well-established - but more so with new threads that can be caught early
1/19/2007 11:39:04 AM
it should only be allowed outside of Chit Chat.seriously, how long before thread titles are changed just to fuck people up.and if it keeps the same editing format, you can edit 3? times, this could fuck up more than it would clean up.

Maybe they could have a first-page rule - if it goes beyond the first page the title becomes permanent.Of course we all know nobody's going to change anything, but it's fun to speculate.

I do not predict this ever happening.

I agree with you Panthro, which is why I threw in the "moderator approval required" to make it happen. Moderators typically have decent enough sense about them to realize when a thread does or does not need to be renamed. I was thinking of this primarily for lower traffic / longer thread forums, not Chit Chat or Classifieds.[Edited on January 24, 2007 at 9:03 PM. Reason : .]

Chit Chat is its own entity and we really don't treat it like the other forums.
