...in class today. And I realized how tired I am of hearing it. What's the point of working hard if you can't water your grass everyday and have the greenest yard in the neighborhood? What's the point of working hard if you can't wash your big ass SUV every week and have a shiny car to cruise around town in? What's the point of working hard if you can't buy a new TV or computer and throw your old one out whenever you fucking want to?Why do they think we bust our asses? We do it for the money so we can have the freedom to do whatever the fuck we want. And they want to make us feel guilty about that? Bullshit. If another country was in our position, they'd be doing the exact same thing. Just like every super power before us has done the exact same thing.
1/17/2007 5:24:59 PM
does it make it responsible?
1/17/2007 5:42:23 PM
wowbut yeahwhats the point of working and being a zombie if you don't have goalsI know that for me to have the things I want, I'm gonna have to work my ass off
1/17/2007 5:49:18 PM
No, it's not responsible. But I think we need to stop talking about it because it's never gonna change. The only way they'll get us to stop wasting is if they tax the shit out of shit. And we won't let that happen because we won't vote for someone who wants to tax us four times over for washing our clothes too often. It's never gonna change, and they should give it a rest and put all their attention on something they can actually change. My professor was talking about how we waste water and how Africans are dying because of polluted water supplies. And I'm thinking, "What the fuck does Joe America washing his car on the weekend have to do with Joe Africa shitting in his own fucking water supply?" We can get clean water in Africa if we're persistent, but lay off the car washers and the daily shower-takers.

holy shit for once i agree with bridget
1/17/2007 6:32:17 PM
Do you think you work'd harder then joe africa to get to where you are, or do you think that maybe circumstance had something to do with it?I don't think that anyone that has the wealth that they have in the US has gotten it by working 'harder' then a farming family in kenya. Joe africa certianly wasn't offered any academic scholarships. I'm not saying this is true of everyone, but I think a lot of the reason that they tell you these things is not to get you to stop, but to appreciate what you have and realize that there are things you can do to improve the lives of others. Maybe donate that computer you are tossing next time, I think that's all they want.
1/17/2007 6:55:11 PM
i think you completely missed the point and took this way too personalbtw when's the last time you bought a $500,000 car ]
1/17/2007 6:56:57 PM
^^you summed it up exactly how i was thinking about it. i think of it as a privilege and lucky to be born in america. my cousins in brazil work much harder in school or work, but will never be able to earn or have the spending power as i have.
1/17/2007 7:04:20 PM
there is nothing wrong with taking advatnage of opportunitysadly, most americans don't
1/17/2007 7:11:49 PM
Yes, you've encountered socialists. It's no fun is it? Those same socialists likely believe the UN could solve all those problems if the evil United States would just cooperate--but wait. . .Ex-chief of UN oil-for-food program is chargedhttp://www.iht.com/articles/2007/01/17/america/web.0117nations.phpOops! I'm a contrary person. This professor spent the entire class period sharing his opinions on family, religion, gender roles, money, and all sorts of other issues, and his opinions were so fucking boring and liberal and superficial and blah that, by the end, I was sick of him and myself.I still wanna legalize drugs, prostitution, and gambling. And put free condoms in middle schools and prisons. Start public daycare and public pre-school. And all sorts of other crazy liberal shit.

Bridgetspk your post was pretty sickening to be honest. Sure we all are guilty of "being wasteful" to some extent but for you to just blow it off and say you don't care about the rest of the world and dont understand why anybody else cares just because you are in the position to is selfish and very snobbish. We happen to have hold of more resources than any other nation but that doesn't mean we deserve to live and nobody else does. We are driving suvs and pumping co2 into the atmosphere at the cost of other peoples lives. Who do you think is going to be effected the most when the oceans rise several feet in the next 40 years? Not the usa because we have the money and resources to overcome most problems but countries like BANGLADESH are going to complete chaos. When we throw away our old computers do you know where is done with them? they are shipped out to the ivory coast and china for a small price but what the buyers don't know is the lead and other toxic chemicals are eventually going to seap into the water supply and give them all cancer.o honey they're just jealous
1/17/2007 9:46:37 PM
^Don't call me honey unless you want to go by fag. And, no, I don't feel guilty about driving an SUV. They need to get on top of creating other fuels and modes of transportation and incentivizing hybrid purchases and leave me the fuck alone.

If you disagree with your professor, perhaps you have not studied policy or the externalities of our consumption practices. Chances are, if you actually you actually studied the subject with an open mind, you probably wouldn't have this opinion.

from your posts, I surmise you have no understanding of the concept of sustainability
1/18/2007 12:50:27 AM
Absolutely none.Wanna quit being vague and inform me?I know it's easier to insist that if I studied the matter, I'd understand. But, let's face it...I'm not gonna study the matter.
1/18/2007 12:54:37 AM
I think what he's saying is that we need to pull this thing overhop outand give the keys to the UN[Edited on January 18, 2007 at 12:57 AM. Reason : because they know whats best]
1/18/2007 12:56:43 AM
No, he's saying that the world would be a better place if all 6.5 billion people drove 6-liter trucks.
1/18/2007 12:58:23 AM
probably so, my truck has better mileage than almost any other truck on the roadand less emissionsnot to mention people would be happier if they rode in nicer vehicleslet me guess... you're about to play a game of "pass judgements and assume I am better than someone because of what they drive", right?thats cool, it's a fun game too... we can also compare jobs, paychecks, lifestyle while we are at it since apparently you want to go that route
1/18/2007 1:04:24 AM
I was just pointing out how stupid it is to make strawmen all the time.Because there is absolutely no middle-ground between conservation and letting the UN take over our government.
1/18/2007 1:07:20 AM
i wasn't making a strawmanis that the liberal word of the week?I was being facetious more than anythinglike... way over the topyou being the highly intelligent individual that you are probably already knew it though!11
1/18/2007 1:10:32 AM
With most people I can assume statements as dumb as that are sarcasm...You and Tree, however...
1/18/2007 1:12:09 AM
yeah I'm smart enough to not do what you do... hows that for a big dummy like myself
1/18/2007 1:13:59 AM
But not smart-enough to make responses that make sense
1/18/2007 1:18:47 AM
makes sense to me, thats really all that mattersI know that no matter what I type on here, neither you or your friends here will listen or carewhatever helps you sleep at night
1/18/2007 1:21:05 AM
Driving around in a large, shiny powerful vehicle.Owning a nice house and some land.Having a boat.Earning many times what someone in the 3rd world does.Eating huge meals.Going out on the water and driving said boat around to the tune of 3mpg and then towing it home with large shiny vehicle to the tune of 10mpg.Not having to worry about yourself, the government, or someone else taking what you've earned when it comes time to pay the bills for this type of lifestyle.I'll be back later, the huge truck, ATV and boat are a little bit dirty and need washing. And poor people owe me rent money so I'll need to go drive over there in my big clean truck afterward and collect that.Sounds like what constitutes success and the American Dream to me. What's wrong with that?
1/18/2007 1:23:20 AM
1/18/2007 1:33:46 AM
^^Poor people owing you rent money?Come on, dude, that's lame. You coulda said something like, "And I just had another ingenuous idea that will solve one of the world's problems. Let me go develop and cash in on that."[Edited on January 18, 2007 at 1:34 AM. Reason : sss]
