Windows Vista is now available on ECE MSDNAA.
1/17/2007 1:03:08 PM
you don't say?
1/17/2007 1:09:11 PM
luckily they should be sending me a copy through that webcast thing they did some time ago. wish i still had access to MSDNAA though :-(
1/17/2007 1:25:05 PM
xp and office 2003 are just fine for me til next fall at least
1/17/2007 2:28:08 PM
how much is this going to cost through the university?
1/17/2007 2:41:04 PM
MOTHERFUCKERS!I knew they'd do this right after I lost my MSDNAA access.
1/17/2007 3:06:47 PM
that's how i feel
1/17/2007 3:13:38 PM
Hell yeah! I've been checking for this every day. Might as well go ahead and give it a shot.
1/17/2007 5:04:42 PM
I was just in best buy and they have Vista sitting in the back waiting to be shelved on Jan. 30th.
1/17/2007 6:13:18 PM
Got my advanced copy
1/17/2007 6:45:23 PM
cost?
1/17/2007 9:26:02 PM
so who wants to download me a copy for free?
1/17/2007 9:27:05 PM
1/17/2007 9:31:16 PM
whats the driver support like now? will my printer/mobo/sound card/video card etc have drivers?
1/17/2007 9:52:31 PM
1/17/2007 9:56:55 PM
@ dFshadow: have you used Office 2007 at all? it is like 10 years beyond Office 2003. This is the first Office I have considered actually spending my money on.btw, someone hook me up with a copy of Vista. i will pay (a lil bit)...
1/18/2007 1:30:11 AM
how is RC2? i need to update my desktop to either XP or RC2 (currently running RC1) but its sucking for games.
1/18/2007 1:35:54 AM
^ rc2 is decent but the thing with games is you need nice drivers which apparently only work on Vista final. so, i dunno what that means to you but i hope it helps.
1/18/2007 1:50:20 AM
well i guess that means i'll reinstall XP pro and then pick up Final Jan. 30th
1/18/2007 3:27:54 AM
1/18/2007 3:33:12 AM
i think i'll wait until the first service pack
1/18/2007 8:50:18 AM
once again, does it cost you anything to download it?
1/18/2007 8:54:16 AM
hmm, i'm still a csc undergrad, i'm assuming you need to be enrolled in one or more courses that would enable access to msdnaa?
1/18/2007 9:56:18 AM
^^ No^ That's correct.
1/18/2007 9:58:09 AM
i remember the 1 semester i was enrolled in ECE331 they had given me access to the MSDNAA site. before i realized what exactly it was, it was too late and all i was able to get was just a copy of XP Pro. but the kicker is is that the serial they gave me i think i copied down wrong cause when i've tried to use it in the past, it doesn't work.
1/18/2007 11:30:14 AM
i guess the one real question i have is this: do I have to use a fucking 3.5" driver disk to format it onto a RAID? if so, MS can lick my balls
1/18/2007 11:46:15 AM
You can use a USB key now and it is easier to add the driver into the install than it used to be.
1/18/2007 11:57:51 AM
^Presuming your hardware supports it. Some older machines suck when it comes to BIOS recognition of USB devices.Which versions are they offering? Home, Business, Ultimate? 32 or 64 bit?
1/18/2007 12:36:15 PM
Business, only 32 is up there right now, but I hope to put up x64 soon.[Edited on January 18, 2007 at 1:11 PM. Reason : ?]
1/18/2007 1:11:03 PM
Looks like its 32-bit Business Edition... I'm going to install it tonight and give it a try. First, I'm going to check for hardware support again, since this EVGA nforce 680i has been a pain in the ass on XP Pro as it is.
1/18/2007 1:16:52 PM
1/18/2007 1:39:46 PM
some kinda intro class maybe? lol i dunno
1/18/2007 1:44:57 PM
CSC 200
1/18/2007 1:59:33 PM
^^^any class if you're going to drop it.
1/18/2007 2:05:15 PM
do they give msdnaa access to csc200 students? If so, those ppl wouldn't be able to figure out how to download the software.
1/18/2007 3:27:16 PM
Doesn't the CSC MSDNAA have Vista? And what's with the ECE MSDNAA always kicking the CSC MSDNAA's ass? When I was in school it was like that too. Same old shit on the CSC MSDNAA but lots and lots of new stuff on the ECE MSDNAA. It should really be the other way around...
1/18/2007 4:39:51 PM
I look after my ECE peeps. I know you guys need a steady stream of new toys to play with.
1/18/2007 5:03:20 PM
hook me up with vista on the site and i'll make it worth your while
1/18/2007 5:05:15 PM
Take an ECE class
1/18/2007 5:09:34 PM
aw you're no fun lol
1/18/2007 5:15:31 PM
1/18/2007 5:41:57 PM
^ Well, it doesn't make any difference to me... I graduated a couple years ago.But it's the principal of the matter. Computer Science students should have access to the latest software. I would think it should be harder to make a case for ECE's educational need for Vista over CSC's.
1/18/2007 6:18:09 PM
ece has resources and csc doesn't - it's been this way for a while nowgo yell at dr. vouk - not enough people do - BUT WE ARE DOING REALLY WELL RESEARCH WISE!! pft
1/18/2007 6:29:02 PM
Huh. I always thought CSC did pretty well, resource-wise.
1/18/2007 6:44:17 PM
1/18/2007 8:05:38 PM
Just installed Vista, real pain in the ass with all the software thats not compatible with it from Win XP
1/18/2007 10:31:54 PM
Yea, it's definitely not there yet. But I guess that is understandable considering it hasn't been officially released yet.I've been using it for a month now and it can be a pain. I'm still mad that they removed support for game ports. I can't use my Sidewinder game pad to play SNES romz now Also, the User Account Control is annoying b/c so much software is poorly written and requires admin. I'm hoping this will shame people into fixing their software.
1/18/2007 11:06:43 PM
Yeah account control seems like a good idea in theory, but damn it when it pops a every time I boot up cause Logitech wants to check for sw updates.....it starts becoming a pain in the assCan't believe there is no remember this action function. And disabling it causing Security Center to freak out.....
1/18/2007 11:09:23 PM
holding off until creative releases drivers that work...so never?
1/18/2007 11:10:22 PM
Creative released some beta X-Fi drivers....they appear to be working okay for me
1/18/2007 11:21:38 PM
