@ dFshadow: have you used Office 2007 at all? it is like 10 years beyond Office 2003. This is the first Office I have considered actually spending my money on.

btw, someone hook me up with a copy of Vista. i will pay (a lil bit)...

^ rc2 is decent but the thing with games is you need nice drivers which apparently only work on Vista final. so, i dunno what that means to you but i hope it helps.

all a matter of opinion. yes, i've used it. i hated outlook so much i uninstalled that first. and it botched the rollback to outlook 2003 so i had to do manual registry editing. then i started hating how many ribbons i had to go through to do common things like Format > Styles and formatting in Word 03 so I uninstalled the whole damn thing.

and now i'm content with office 2003.

i remember the 1 semester i was enrolled in ECE331 they had given me access to the MSDNAA site. before i realized what exactly it was, it was too late and all i was able to get was just a copy of XP Pro. but the kicker is is that the serial they gave me i think i copied down wrong cause when i've tried to use it in the past, it doesn't work.

i guess the one real question i have is this: do I have to use a fucking 3.5" driver disk to format it onto a RAID? if so, MS can lick my balls

You can use a USB key now and it is easier to add the driver into the install than it used to be.

Presuming your hardware supports it. Some older machines suck when it comes to BIOS recognition of USB devices.

Which versions are they offering? Home, Business, Ultimate? 32 or 64 bit?

Business, only 32 is up there right now, but I hope to put up x64 soon.

Looks like its 32-bit Business Edition... I'm going to install it tonight and give it a try. First, I'm going to check for hardware support again, since this EVGA nforce 680i has been a pain in the ass on XP Pro as it is.

do they give msdnaa access to csc200 students? If so, those ppl wouldn't be able to figure out how to download the software.

Doesn't the CSC MSDNAA have Vista?

And what's with the ECE MSDNAA always kicking the CSC MSDNAA's ass? When I was in school it was like that too. Same old shit on the CSC MSDNAA but lots and lots of new stuff on the ECE MSDNAA. It should really be the other way around...

Simple answer: Departmental funding and resource (i.e. people's time) allocation. Some departments have more money than others ... not saying that necessarily the case between ECE/CSC, but its a fact nonetheless. If you think its a serious enough issue, you can request a meeting with the department head of either department. I would be prepared to present a case ... you really don't want to waste the time of somebody that high up ... i.e. first spend about 100 hours reviewing past/present/future through processes, and then make the request. Otherwise, suck it up unless there is a class need for it. (And if you are in ECE, send Patman a courtesy 6-pack or bottle of cheap wine or something ... that always helps motivate me to put an added hour or two of work).

^ Well, it doesn't make any difference to me... I graduated a couple years ago.

But it's the principal of the matter. Computer Science students should have access to the latest software. I would think it should be harder to make a case for ECE's educational need for Vista over CSC's.

Yea, it's definitely not there yet. But I guess that is understandable considering it hasn't been officially released yet.

I've been using it for a month now and it can be a pain. I'm still mad that they removed support for game ports. I can't use my Sidewinder game pad to play SNES romz now

Also, the User Account Control is annoying b/c so much software is poorly written and requires admin. I'm hoping this will shame people into fixing their software.

Yeah account control seems like a good idea in theory, but damn it when it pops a every time I boot up cause Logitech wants to check for sw updates.....it starts becoming a pain in the ass

Can't believe there is no remember this action function.

And disabling it causing Security Center to freak out.....
