I'm in the market to buy a boat. I want a 15-21' Flat's boat with a 35+hp engine. I want it to take it out on lakes and out in the sound. My question is, how important is power tilt/trim? The advice I got from one person was, "dont get one without it." I'm just looking for other opinions.

if you plan on taking it in the sound, then yes, you'll want power trim due to the variations in water conditions. you'll be able to trim it up so the bow won't be plowing the entire time. power trim also helps depending on boat load or number of people you have with you. yes, you can set the trim without power trim but you'd have to do it everytime depending on boat load. also, since you do want to go out on the sound, i wouldn't get anything smaller than a 19' flat bottom.

definitely don't want a smaller boat for the sounds. We had an 18' skiff and got beat up bad on many occations. now we have an 18' shallow v and it's better, but still get hard hits when the white caps come out. The skiff didn't have power trim for quite a while but once we got a newer motor with power trim it was much better.

I definitely think power tilt/trim is a luxury I wouldn't do without if I had the choice.

really should have trim unless you're just going for cheap as possible.

I went to Bunker Hill. My in-laws had a 17 foot Key West that they used on Core Sound and they loved it...hindsight is 20-20, but I wish I would have bought that boat from them...
