How do you think we would have done next year? With another year, maybe our guys would have had what it took to get over the hump.Hooray for rebuilding!

wow
1/15/2007 5:56:19 PM
They should have figured out what it takes to get over the hump after we nailed Notre Dame down in Jacksonville a few years ago.
1/15/2007 5:58:06 PM
He would have done great next year. We would still have that pipe-line of recruits from south florida. But I have alot of info to discuss on this issue, a thread will be coming soon.
1/15/2007 5:59:23 PM
what the hell are we rebuilding from? we lost 1 quarterback and we cant get it together? i highly doubt amato wouldve done anything special next year
1/15/2007 6:05:32 PM
seriously, lock this shit.

acctually I think it's a decent question. we have serviceable quarterbacks on our roster for the first time in the last 2-3 years. I could see state doing betterif you can believe the hype. beck and burke are supposedly in different sections of athletic ability than stone davis and evans[Edited on January 15, 2007 at 6:26 PM. 1/15/2007 6:25:00 PM
its a question thats been asked and discussed
1/15/2007 6:26:59 PM
this is true.
1/15/2007 6:27:23 PM
why dwell
1/15/2007 6:29:34 PM
I'm interested in what this Burke kid can do. I'm also wondering if our defense will be able to hold ANYBODY.
1/15/2007 6:32:18 PM
Amato sucks. Why can't people realize this?
1/15/2007 6:49:30 PM
Iwould say at 3-9 I hope THIS year was a rebuilding year.

IF Amato stayed another year we would win 5-6 games ... the rest of our losses would equal about 15 points combined.

I'm interested in this coming thread about why Amato should have been retained. Hopefully it will involve informed commentary and not talk about his glasses and shoes. He had that fire.
1/15/2007 8:12:53 PM
If he did stay, there would be so many rumors with Cowher replacing him if he failed expectations again with every loss.
1/15/2007 8:41:02 PM
1/15/2007 8:42:47 PM
he was hot shit coming out of high school though. just like everyone though davis and stone were. the point is amato/amato's staff couldn't develop a QB past his high school abilities, which is why stone always looked so damn lost on the field.
1/15/2007 8:45:05 PM
i guarantee this so called new thread will contain the words "fact" and "victor" and maybe even "dad-gom"
1/15/2007 8:45:10 PM
^^ ryan leaf was hot shit comingout of college. way to go chargers not developing him ... stone has the iq of a turnip, that's why he looked lost.[Edited on January 15, 2007 at 8:50 PM. Reason : .]
1/15/2007 8:49:02 PM
greco was never the "hot shit" as a qb, his numbers were fucking awful. he was a damn good athlete, but never the "hot shit" as a qb.
1/15/2007 8:51:57 PM
If he stayed another year we could have fired him and gotten Cowher
1/15/2007 8:52:20 PM
If he stayed another year I would have bought basketball season tickets instead of football next year.
1/15/2007 8:54:10 PM
haha. I may have to unblock Earl when he makes this thread. I'm sure there's gonna be a lot of funny shit in it.

^^^ That would have been nice.
1/15/2007 9:03:23 PM
^^ Except it's obvious that Marcus Stone is as dumb as a brick and got by on physical prowess alone in high school.

1/15/2007 9:22:35 PM
the original argument was that we don't know what amato could have done with the possibility of beck and/or burke at QB. ^ my point above was that if stone's problem was intelligence, why was he recruited to begin with?these are two highly touted QB's who haven't seen any game experience for us and we really don't know much about them. who can say if they're serviceable or not? amato thought stone, davis and greco would be too but obviously that turned out poorly. he'd been here 7 years. he couldn't cut it without rivers making him look good.[Edited on January 15, 2007 at 9:29 PM. 1/15/2007 9:27:43 PM
and my point is stone was recruited for the same reason Ryan Leaf was drafted...I'm almost positive the Chargers didn't foresee his breakdown and thought ... hrm well maybe we can get a good year our two out of him first !!for as solid as our other position players recruiting has been ... our luck with qb's have been the polar opposite.[Edited on January 15, 2007 at 9:38 PM. lock this shit up.
1/15/2007 10:41:07 PM
I like how guys like Ryan Leaf (Sam Bowie, Charlie Ward-football, Tim Couch, etc) get discussed like they are the rule rather than the exception. Give me any of the top picks and there's a great chance they will be pretty good. If the lottery picks in both sports were all Hall of Famers, drafts wouldn't be nearly as interesting. I don't even remember Leaf being that great in college anyway, there are plenty of QB's to get to the Rose Bowl who aren't and shoudn't be anoited the next Montana. It's like someone saying, he's too short to play basketball, and then immediatley the Tyrone Bogues and Earl Boykins arguments come up. Sure, ok, you can have all the players under 5'9", and I'll take all the ones over, and we will see who makes out well. Exceptions are great stories, and make for good motivation, but they are just that, exceptions, not the rule.[Edited on January 15, 2007 at 11:41 PM. Reason : .]

Wake won the ACC this year. They always land a fuckload of 5 star recruits.
1/16/2007 12:46:19 AM
^ case in point...You take Wake, I'll take ______ (insert perrenial Powerhouse), and over the next 5 seasons, see who has more winning seasons/con. championships/BCS appearances, I'll even include this year and spot you 1, and I'll take a powerhouse team that didn't get to the BCS this season.
1/16/2007 12:59:52 AM
nomy point is that it CAN be done. One thing working against teams like Wake is that when it IS done, their coaches usually bolt for bigger and better teams. Thing that pisses people off is that Amato didnt recruit poorly and got stomped consistently by teams who recruited worse than him, yet made great players out of some of these "diamonds in the rough". It doesnt make a bit of sense, but it happened.

Yes, Boise is an above average team who beat one of the big boys, that is certainly praise worthy. OU having lost Bomar, and still making it to a BCS says a lot to me regarding the Sooners. I'd just love for Boise to play in a conference like the SEC or Big eleven. You can't tell me there woopty doo, oopty oop offense would work for 13 straight weeks against smash mouth defenses of the Big eleven, or the natural disaster like speed of SEC defenses. Their success depends soley on their offense, and I'd like to get a gimpse of a team like Wisconsin/tOSU running it down theri throats keeping Zebransky on the sidelines all game. Sure, Boise could easily go 10-2 or 9-3, but 13-0, doubtful. Now, it's not Boise's fault they don't play these teams, because If I'm in the SEC, I don't dare play them with the Conf. schedule I have to play, which is why Georgia gets credit for introducing them to the woodshed last season I believe.
