Hi Everyone,

I am attaching a link to the website where you can adopt a soldier if you would like... write letters, send packages, etc. Since Bush is trying to extend their stay in Iraq, it would be great if they see that we support them, even if we don't necessarily support the war.

Thanks

Pretty sure I would "adopt a child" before I adopted a US soldier.

^ what servicemen have you seen "begging"? i'd say most appreciate it, but certainly don't expect it.

oh, and moving to Lounge.

adopt a us soldier. . . or write your congress person and tell them to vote for taxes that actually help to fully fund the war and its soldiers so that they can be adequately compensated for their hardships.

it would be funny if everyone sent return tickets to them so they can all abandon bush's madness and go home safely to their families.

^ yeah as if political party affiliation has anything to do with how much you support the troops.
you could actually argue that the liberals currently in power care more about the troops than the republicans since they want to pull the troops out and prevent them from being killed.

If anything you should hope some Democrats adopt the troops since they aren't trying to horde all the nation's money. They might actually send a care package or some body armor.

^^WTF are you talking about?

I surely hope you aren't saying that conservatives hoard money. They are actually more giving at all income levels than their liberal counterparts.

I did this in second grade for the original war, I got lots of thank you letters. My uncle tells me he got a variety of stuff as an officer and still gets some.

I won't do it just based on that asshole comment. There are Republicans and Democrats fighting over there. Why do you have to politicize a good cause like that?

Dear lord TWW... at it again. Stop turning this into a political comparison and take the opportunities to find out some ways you can help our soliders or don't. It's completely up to you, but stop turning one person's compassion into your verbal battlefield. Just my two cents.

ENDFlute and synapse, thanks for posting these good links. Definitely looking into this stuff!

my buddy in Iraq was complaining the other day about all the q-tips and toothbrushes they get in care packages. what these guys really want is booze and porn. just label the package "juice" and it will get over there fine.

I agree with this, too. My cousin was killed over in Ramadi this past summer and a guy who was like a brother to him (who is now basically part of my family) came back to tell us that he doesn't really care if republicans or democrats are leading the political scene but if they have to go back - they need better resources. He said nearly everything they use (tanks, gear, etc.) are damaged and outdated. If we're going to keep sending our friends, family and neighbors over there the least we can do is send them with the best resources possible.

Adopting a US Soldier, while you can't send them fresh body armor or tanks, you may make their life a little easier.
